Non-Scott Frost Coaching Options

But there was a helluva lot of winning and a few almost nattys before he made it over the hump.  Pretty disingenuous to compare TOs time before actually winning that first natty to anyone we’ve had since. There is absolutely no comparison.

Wasn't doing that. I was given the 20 year time frame and ran with it.

Those early 1980s Osborne teams were so much fun that I was fine giving him another decade to deliver.

But as we've pointed on on this board many times,: when Osborne's job was in serious jeopardy after the 1991 bowl game blowout to Georgia Tech, he significantly changed his coaching and recruiting philosophy to reflect changes in the game. Fan expectations weren't totally unfounded. Tom Osborne went out and raised his own ceiling.

IF a change is made, I think we would be much better off with an up and coming coach at a lower level than we would with an experienced coach with a mediocre record.  No way we should want Gus, or anyone like him.

I think we need a proven head coach at either level, preferably with many years of success. No more lower level up and coming coaches like Frost who was the shiny star for one season.

I didn’t think you were doing that. I only included your quote because it was instrumental to the flow of discussion.  :thumbs

Your point is well taken. I'm intrigued with Mike Elko. Stop the run specialist and seems quite an intelligent guy. Thoughts?

I havent seen anyone here, or anywhere, mention Kyle Whittingham from Utah.  The offense and defensive schemes would be great for NU.  He took Utah into the PAC 12 from a non Power 5 conference and has been competing at a high level.  All while being at a school with 2 other division 1 programs in the same state.  At a school with no history other than Urban, no prior championships, facilities, tradition, or history.

That is true. Is somebody saying that is/was the case with any of our current/former coaches?

While past/current results may be highly indicative of future results, hitting some “ceiling” really isn’t the problem with Frost. The problem is a complete failure to show any improvement whatsoever while at Nebraska. The seeming ceiling he experienced at UCF may just have been due to unique circumstances. The important thing here is that there has not been even the slightest hint that there is any higher level forthcoming on any timeline.
Yes, at least one poster wrote that Pelini had hit his ceiling.

Oh, Pelini, yeah I’d definitely say he hit his ceiling at Nebraska. He seemed to be more than satisfied with his 9 wins and was not interested in doing anything to exceed that. In fact he got downright belligerent about any more being expected.

Sorry, I thought the discussion was centering on Frost and our current problems.

No worries....we've got 20 years worth to pick from.

Yep in seven years he hit his ceiling JFC.  He went to 3 title games.  That doesn't happen by accident or for not wanting to.  His emotion after losing should tell you are completely wrong in thinking he didn't want to exceed that.  This BS we have going on right now with no passion from the valiant leader and Eore the quarterback is ridiculous.

Guess what it's also boring and sucks as a fan to watch.  It's supposed to fun, it's supposed to be exciting, it's supposed to elicit emotion from the fans and players.   If I wanted to watch a liberian coach I would join a gosh dang book club.  I don't give 4 craps about what anyone says about Bo, at least I thought his team's had a chance and he cared about winning games.

I mentioned Campbell and Whittingham as a couple proven P5 coaches that could be attainable. I don't believe Urban Meyer or Bob Stoops are realistic.
