NU to unveil $150 million football facility plan Friday

Here's just a comparison. The football facility cost $165 million for 315,000 square feet. Remember, that could have been smaller for a roster of 105. That's $523 per square foot. The new business college was $84 million for 240,000 square feet. That's $350 per square foot. Yes, there's some inflation in those numbers. But....Doing the football facility for even $400 per square foot would have saved about $40 million at the same size.
You do realize that facility is used by other teams right?

Does Indiana or Miami have what we have for a $165 million football/sports facility like ours? If not, how do they have so much better football players?

Hawks Hall opened in 2017, the rate of inflation for non-residential construction projects from then until 2023 was 12%. How do you propose doing the facility 33% cheaper other than significantly reducing the build out sf? I have sourced for large construction projects, that is the only way I know of to pull that kind of spend out. To that that end, the only area you could say should be smaller IMO is the locker room. Everything else is sized to support 800+ student athletes overall. Reducing the football team by 35 players wouldn’t allow for a 70,000sf reduction, heck it would only yield 2,500-3,000 sf from the football locker room. Below is what is listed for space allocations for the complex.

300,000sf (Osborne Legacy Complex Overview)
  • Hall of Champions - 15,000sf
  • Training Table - 5,000sf (all athletes)
  • Academic Center & Life Skills Area - 21,000sf
  • Strength and Conditioning Center - 31,000sf
  • Recovery Center - 8,500sf
  • Athletic Medicine - 10,000sf
  • Players Lounge - 8,000sf
  • FB Locker Room (145 lockers) - 12,000sf (25% reduction would result in a 9,000sf locker room)
  • Walkthrough Room - 8,000sf
  • Team Meeting Rooms for 9 position groups - sf not listed
  • Football Offices (includes media bullpen) - sf not listed, staff size has ballooned in recent years
  • Team Auditorium- 3,100sf
  • Atrium with escalators to connect lower and upper level - sf not listed

That is an apples and oranges argument. Oregon, Ohio State, Clemson, etc. all do. How about ask Cignetti if he would want something like this and if it would help him field competitive teams? I am betting he would say yes.

One word, Coaching. Getting hung up on facility dollars or the scale of the facility is the wrong direction. Facility push and build was well before the 105 roster limit came into play. No evidence that we aren't already in the top 10-20 of programs spending on talent so that argument falls flat too. Fact is, coaching is the key. Used to be development, but with the portal, every program is essentially a one year turnstile with the hopes of finding a handful of guys that will stick it out 2-3 years.

Bringing this thread back to the topic, any word on whether we're done with the portal adds or are we still waiting out the Miami & Indiana players? The only notable name that has been chatted about was Miami RB Marty Brown who is from Omaha. No indications that he would be entering the portal, but I have to assume our staff would be interested in him if he hops in the portal after tonight's game.

Actually, just googling OSU football complex, they haven't built their $150,000,000 complex and practice facility yet. They did recently do a $7,800,000 upgrade.

Meanwhile, we have recruits constantly saying ours is the grandest of them all.

OK so OSU hasn’t yet built it, but have committed funds so they will have one soon. What about the others I mentioned and also how would you pull 33% out of the Osborne Complex build?
