Octo yellin' at Coz??!!

I think the offense has definitely progressed a lot more than the defense in the last 4 years.

That's all I'm going to say about that.
Agreed. Our offense and special teams were actually good Saturday--yeah, Lucky couldn't get squat, but Cody Glenn looked good, and our passing game was excellent. If we could have peeled one or two of those nine out of the box early on, we would have been able to run the ball...which we did a little bit after we passed extremely well against them.

And don't lump the defensive secondary w/the rest of the defense (and Doc Oct)--they did an excellent job against the USC receivers, and didn't have problems until they spent the better half of the evening compensating for our poor front seven.

Callahan can stay--he and Watson are the real deal on offense. Cosgrove on defense, though...I'd donate money to the University to buy out his contract and get a real defensive coordinator in here.

Cosgrove sucks. I would love to see some video of that yelling session. I want to watch a few plays again to see just how bad Ruud and McKeon were... are there any clips out there?
Don't forget to throw Steinkuler under the bus too! I watched the game again and focused on D-line. Steinkuler got driven about 5 yards off the line on every running play and his backup Dixon was no better. Mckeon and Ruud were a couple of steps to slow and couldn't fill the huge holes. My guess is that every team we play will run similar running plays till we prove we can stop em. I just couldn't believe that Cosgrove didn't make any adjustments. He's definitely in over his head, we'll never be a legit contender till we get a better DC.

unbelievable. go back and read your post, carefully. this is not so much about coaching, it is about being OUT MANNED! :w00t you can't make steak out of ******* hamberger. our defense is hamberger, nothing the coaches can do will change that, unless we stack the middle and leave the DB's completely alone.

if we would have made that adjustment against SC, Booty would have thrown the ball all over us.

it begins with a strong front 4. you either got 'em or you don't.

Hunter:

Please, I respectfully request you not use the Lords name as you do in your posts. I would like to read your posts but that is too much to handle. Thanks for your consideration.

Was at the game but didn't see the yelling. Guess its hard to tell from sect 38.

I would've been yelling at coz too

sorry, no intent to offend.

The run D was pathetic, I dont think it was an issue of scheme though. Very often the players were in position to make a play and due to poor angles, poor tackling and poor effort they didnt.
Cosgrove can't be on the field making the tackles. I think his scheme was ok, our players just weren't trying their best.

I watched Suh being blownup by a true Freshman

I watched Steinkuler being pushed back time after time. Acutally every single defensive lineman we had.

I saw how slow, Q and Ruud looked against the Trojans.

That is not coaching. That is being out muscled. It is showing the lack of talent we have.

Basic terms for those that just do not understand.

If you took 25 gold coins and put them in the bank every year for 6 years would they be worth more than putting 20 gold coins in for 1 year. Please think carefully on this. There has already been a test.

We need to quit reading our own press. We do not read the real press, or believe it for some reason. We get on this kick that below average linemen last year are all of a sudden studs this year. It does not happen.

Reality is we are getting better and it will show through out the season. We do not have the talent to play with the big boys yet. Patience.

Well...I for one hope that this is NOT true. I am loosing faith in Coz as many of you are and in fact Saturday night was calling for him to be fired as well. I may be reconsidering that position at this point and agree that we were simply out manned Saturday night. Doesn't make it any easier to swallow though.

My hope is that Octo will stepup as a leader and support his coach (whether he desrves it or not). I wold also hope to see the playmakers on the field. As much as I love McKeon, his motor and his heart, i fear he has started "thinking" too much and isn't simply reacting the way he did when he was a frosh. And Bo...well...he is all Big 12... These guys need to stepup and make it work on the field, support their coach and lead by example.

This is what seperates Crappy coaches from great ones. MOTIVATION! Coz is like a director of a Peter North film handing out salt-p**ter. He's gotta go.

If you need extra motivation, like a corny speech, to play in that game then you should just stop playing football.

If you have to motivate your players to play against the top team in the country at home. You have serious problems with the players not the coach.

I am not saying Coz is a great coach. But this honestly had nothing to do with coaching. We could not tackle. If they have to be taught how to tackle at this point in their careers they are not going to make it anyway.

Talent beat our butts this weekend. Talent normally wins out. We are nowhere near what they have and a host of other programs. WE are outside the top ten, most likely about where we are ranked now.

Accept where we are and look what is being done to correct the situation. That is all we can do. Steps are being made. But we are not there yet and will not be next year or the year after. A good class this year, but not as good as SC's, LSU, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and a few others. It takes time to save the money, we just started.

I have never seen any good defensive coach's defense play so far under thier potential. If motivation shouldn't be needed than what is. These kids did not look motivated at all. Call it a problem with what ever you want. kids, coaches, whatever. Good DC's don't seem to have this issue. I had no issue with Bo leaving and ending up at LSU but look what he did with a defense that wasn't getting it done and adding some MOTIVATION. The problem is what it is but the coaching certainly isn't helping. We need someone to bring out the hunger in the players. Castille wants to fight, scratch and claw for that extra yard. Octo wants to kill the ball carrier. You can see it in these two. Glen will fight for the yards. There are VERY few others. And as a defensive team that fire doesn't seem to be there as a group.

Did I miss something? When has this offense done anything against a good defense let alone a great one.

Look at Auburn and Nebraska the last two years they've run bascally the same offense

Auburns highest point total was 40 last year against Wash st 40-14 w

their 4 biggest games they scored Florida 27-17 w(If you look you would see 12 points came off of turnovers touchdowns) Arkansas 10-27 L

Georgia 15-37 L

Nebraska 17-14 W By the way this is the vaunted offense that NU great defense held to 17 look what their offense is doing this year.

Nebraska Highest point total last year Troy 56-0 W

Their 4 biggest games they scored USC 10-28 L

Texas 20- 22 L

Oklahoma 7-21 L

Auburn 14-17 L

Why people call the option and power I out dated they should look and see that the West Coast offense has been around since the 80's and if it was such a great offense why wouldnt any of the top ten teams actually be running it? Oklahoma? Florida? USC? LSU?OHIO ST? West Virginia?( by the way they have a form of the option)

Another thing that hampers the West coast in Nebraska your never going to get the great receivers you need to they all tend to go to the teams where the climate is warm.

Have we even had a 5 star let alone a 4 star reciever even mention that he might come here?

Face it Nebraska through away the baby with the baby water. They junked what they could do best when the real problem was the defense at the time. The problem now is that the defense has never gotten better and the offense isn't really helping.

People can take pride in the fianl score of the USC game if they want but it was 21 in the forth quarter meaningless points. :rant

dave, i think he is talking about a little "fire" on the sidelines, for whatever reason Pellini was good at that and his fire seemed to carry over in how the kids played on the field. nothing wrong with that, pumping up the kids! we see Pete Carroll doing it all the time, but i guess you don't get it? each to his own.

i read an article where Charlie Weiss said his kids would not even watch the film of the last 2 beatings they took. you know what Charlie said (basically)? "we are going back to pre season drills, starting today."

the doomers are 0 and 3......i wouldn't want to be at practice with those guys this week!
