CONGRATULATIONS Pile!

A man applied for a job in an office. When he arrived at the busy, noisy office he was told by the receptionist to fill out a form and wait until he was called. He completed the form and then sat and waited along with four other candidates who had arrived earlier. After a few minutes, he got up and went into an inner office and was subsequently given the job. The other candidates who had arrived earlier were angry. The manager explained why the man had been given the job. What was the reason?

This happened in the 1800's. The man had applied for a job as a telegraph operator. Among the background noise was a Morse code message saying, "If you understand this, walk into the office." It was a test of the candidates' skill and alertness. He was the only candidate who passed.

ARG! I was robbed!
