Considering that 5 of the offensive spots on the field are OL shouldn't we theoretically pick up 4 OL/year to keep the OL 3 deep? If we got 4 good Offensive Linemen per year then it would theoretically give us 16 scholarship linemen... and assuming we have a couple red-shirt each year, and a few injuries each year... that would give us 3 deep at each position. Teams like Texas, Florida, and Bama do this.
I feel like part of our offensive line problem is that we settle with 2-3 quality guys each year when we really need 4-5.
You also have to realize that when Callahan got the boot, several of his O-Linemen left too. Burkes had medical issues. A couple of guys never developed like they were expected to.... etc. We only have a few upperclassmen on the line. So don't you think we need to be bringing in some extras (like we have with the defense) to bridge that gap that callahan screwed us with? I think in a perfect world, if we had more scholies we would take Simiek and Fulton.
I'm expecting 5 OL scholarships to be allocated for next year.
Look for us to pick up a *****, a couple of ****, and a couple of *** OL players next year.
