Ohio State Refereeing Lowlights

the refusal to restore a TO when the OSU player was injured
The clock would have started once the player left the field.  Add the fact that coming onto the field after the injury, OSU would have been given the chance for defensive substitutions(it's treated just like offensive teams changing personnel between plays)  which they would have taken their time eating more clock.  So this is moot and not a "screw over"

There is a fine line between bad officiating and crooked officiating.

First time I though about the crew from the Husker-Penn State game in 1982.  Maybe it was their kids.
The calls, or lack thereof, seemed intentional and with spite.  The one where Johnson got the first down by 5 feet and fell forward, the ref spotted the ball BEHIND HIS FEET.

College football is even more of a business now.  Get your Ace to the Playoffs and make your money.

He was right.
Both OPIs were absolutely bogus.

To be honest Joel had a pretty good point that both OPI and DPI are out of hand now. I think a defender should be entitled to his space like basketball, same as the receiver. If you're not actively redirecting a player, holding/restricting them it's not a penalty. There was another game where the defender had been sitting in zone and a receive came by and tried to run through him for the catch and they called DPI. Like how does that make any sense?

And targeting needs to be changed next season. If you launch at a player's head, spear them (why/when did this penalty disappear), or use an arm or leg to intentionally make contact with the head then then you're tossed. If it's incidental then have it be a 15 yarder, but the player stays. Also the review needs to be initiated instantly in the booth to speed things up, just like every other review should be.

My son said something interesting during the game yesterday.  His college coach said officials know who is favored.  If the underdogs are winning or doing well, the officailas think they must be missing something.  Then the flags start conming out.  My son's collge team only won like 2 games the 3 seasons before he got there.  They started beating teams and it really seemed like the officials were always against them.

I found that interesting.

It was an offensive player for OSU who was hurt so the game clock would have started with a play clock at 25seconds and save 15seconds. I agree though, moot point.

Incompetent? Sure, I guess.

Corrupt? Come on guys.

If they had it in the bag for OSU, why would they gift us that targeting call on our final drive, and not only that, but award the catch as well to tack the targeting on top of? 32 free yards on our final drive to potentially take the lead on a play where we could've easily had none if there was a conspiracy against us.

Right. The call would have been no targeting and a fumble recovered by tOSU. Game over.

Never attributed to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

I thought of this too but maybe the targeting call was just too obvious to ignore.. and it was definitely a catch.. I agree it’s hard to believe that the officials are downright corrupt but at the least they’re very biased and their swaying outcomes of games..

It wasn't, we've seen far more egregious calls go the wrong way than that, on both the targeting side and the catch/no catch side.
