This is my final opinion on the game last night. After sleeping on it and reading almost everyone's posts and multiple articles, I really think that NE could have won this game WITH the gameplan BC was using. I think it's unfair to say that we were playing to lose. I was critical of the gameplan after the game, but the more I read about this, the more I realize what he was trying to do.
Offensively- We gift-wrapped the ball when Lucky fumbled and that's all there is to it. That drive is probably where we would have seen a lot of quick passing to the tight ends and recievers and a deep ball. But instead we had to wait until after they scored again. Although I don't really agree with the gameplan, who can honestly say with all of their heart that they think that BC wanted to lose that game? That is basically what some people are saying on this board. "We played to lose." Do you people mean we played not to lose? Because I could agree with that. But come on, no one "plays to lose." Give our team, yes I said team, not players, some credit.
Defensively- I don't know if there was anything that we could have done defensively differently. We held them to 28 points, and I think most people thought we would have to score 28 points or more before the game to win. We stopped the run well for most of the game, and were just totally outmatched in the secondary. What else could we have done? Blitz every down? They would have just gotten us with the quick screens to the WR's then...
For those of you calling for BC's head and saying we played to lose, I would love to hear your comments after the Kansas game last year. You can rip into me now, but I truly think we are on the right track. No one is happy with a loss, but let's not jump ship already! It was USC, not Kansas! :restore
