****Penn State Game Day Thread****

GBR!! Let’s black out their white out with our best defensive effort of the year.

You had me at black out

PSU "sucks" this year. Failed to live up to the hype and fired their HC. But it's a road game, at night, in national tv, after a bye week. They have elite players in both sides of the field and 2 NFL RB's who as a tandem have beaten or hold most "tandem RB" collegiate records. IMHO, we win this and this is Rhule's best win of his tenure at NU. Turn TJ loose in the run game. They'll sell out to stop EJ (feed him anyway). PA and counters in the run the game. Quick routes as 8 man box beaters. We have a shot to win this thing. GBR!!!

You nailed the concerns. Stopping the run and EJ getting going against their front 7. Yes I can see Butler trying to load the box, my concern is their passing game can easily be Singleton out of the back field. UCLA abused the LBs doing this and with far lesser talent in their back field. Offensively I'd hope to see more read option with EJ and TJ. Yeah, the risk of getting TJ hurt amps up, but a couple of positive keeps(or quicker passes off the look) would help open things up for EJ

Toss the record out. PSU still has a lot more talent and the spread is where it is due to that. Throw in it being a night road game and the impression that PSU is starting to rally around the coach(who probably never gets a serious look when all is said and done) they love and salvage the year by getting to a bowl and NUs stellar propensity to sleep walk for large parts of games, it all doesn't seem positive.

I want to be so wrong, but I'm not feeling it

I will be impressed and juiced for Iowa if we can win a night road game in a racous environment. UCLA is about as tame as it gets, borderline home game even. Cincy was a home game. Maryland was a meh crowd also, those are your 3 "road" wins this year. The next real progress step to me, (after the step of simply not losing the easy games which we appear to have cleared), is winning these games on the road. Minnesota was an example, huge failure. Here's another opportunity, what do we do with it.

Also note that we have yet to beat a B1G team who has a winning record in conference, our 4 wins are against teams that are a combined 7-21. Beating PSU would bring that total to 8-28, then add how the other teams do this weekend. Not exactly a huge sign of progress except for not losing some of these easy games. Our 3 losses are to teams 16-5 in conference, for reference.
