Portal QBs

I don't really understand this take to be honest with you. First off, I feel like you're painting us getting Raiola as some negative thing. I disagree with that.

And why would you want to roll with a QB who has almost no passing prowess if you could possibly get a better one out of the portal?

Now if we wind up with Chiles, this thing is screwed either way.
No one is painting Raiola as a negative, he was good until he wasn't... He helped with media attention, he helped the program move forward but he didn't fit the scheme or the personnel that Nebraska had and was moving towards.

Then to claim TJ is not it and the portal is the option only to poo poo a portal QB that is probably top 10..?? What exactly are you looking for..??

I know Lagway. I put this in Raiola thread earlier -

Josh Hoover committed to Indiana
Brendan Sorsby committed to Tech
Drew Mestemaker committed to Okie State
Rocco Becht committed to Penn State
Lincoln Klienholz committed to Louisville
Colton Joseph committed to Wisconsin (was a top target for FSU)
Aaron Philo committed to Florida
Ethan Grunkeymeyer committed to VaTech
Cutter Boley committed to Arizona State
Katin Houser committed to iLLinois
Jaden Craig committed to TCU

On the Board

Dylan Raiola
DJ Lagway - lean towards Florida State or Virginia
Sam Leavitt - Oregan Native
Byrum Braum - lean towards Auburn with his USF Coach
Aiden Chiles - pursed by Clemson
Beau Pribula
Austin Simmons - Ole Miss lefty - heavy lean towards Mizzou

LSU (Kiffin) needs a QB - they all left / grad / transfered
Leavitt to Oregon if Moore goes NFL. Otherwise he goes LSU.
FSU likely goes Lagway
Clemson likely goes Aiden Chiles or Chad Morris
Ole Miss needs QB only if Chambliss isn't granted 6th year medical
Miami will need to replace Carson Beck

Raiola appears to be waiting on Oregon / Moore / Leavitt.... & Miami. Lousiville didn't wait on him and got their QB.
FSU waiting on Lagway and hasn't pursed Raiola.
Clemson isn't thinking Raiola.
Who else is Miami rumored to be looking at..?? I heard a Ty Simpson rumor.. where would that put Dylan

AFAICT none of these are Husker fan accounts. Putting in quote tag because it's long and splitting into multiple posts because apparently there's a limit on Tweets in a post.

I can't disagree with any of the opinions.

Can you name a team that isn't in the playoff that has started off hot in the portal? I agree it's been largely disappointing, but I don't think it's true that anyone can win the portal with just money anymore. Guys are wising up to the fact that they can get fair market value and play for teams that win which is a lot of times preferable to making 20% more and not knowing whether the team will be good.
Sure can

As of yesterday USF got 10 transfer portal commits.

Here is the break down:

All 10 are P4 transfer
5 are P2 transfer

3 Offense
- 2 OL
- 1 WR

7 Defense
- 3 LB
- 2 DBs
- 2 DL

USF with the 16th ranked portal class

Ahead of TCU, Bama, FSU, Nebraska

If I'm TJ I'm throwing my name in the portal if for no other reason to get nebraska to up my nil deal. If they were dumb enough to give rhule an extension because they thought penn state was going to hire him they'll probably throw tj another 100k to stick around.
You could do that. Or, you could be content with getting a pretty good paycheck as long as they go out and get better players around you, especially an O line so you don't get killed next season.

Oklahoma State has a five star, two 4 star commits and 13 three stars.

Sounds like they are landing the players they identified as being able to help their program. We can’t even land SDSU players at this point.

Come on almost all of those players for Ok State at least the top ones are players that followed their coach who just got hired there.

Oklahoma is a playoff team unless you forgot that already.

Oklahoma is a playoff team. Oklahmoa State hired a new coach, and 14 of their 18 commits (including all of the higher-rated ones) are just following their coach. They also have 61 outgoing players in the portal. As far as I can tell, none of USF's commits were starters at their previous schools.

fwiw...i hope that if we sign another qb he has more integrity than munchkin (sp?) had.

Blame the agent (and maybe our staff for not getting an actual signature) - I think he got $2 million from Kentucky because they whiffed on Leavitt which is double what we were offering. This is bad all around on our part, but it would also be bad to throw $2 million at Minchey IMO. We should not have put all of our eggs in one basket, but we have other needs to address with that money as well. And Kentucky was reportedly offering Leavitt $5-7 million, so they would probably continue to up the bid. For what it's worth, I think it's a mistake on Kentucky's part - maybe Minchey is just incredible, but their roster also has big holes and throwing money at an unproven QB doesn't fix those.

All that being said, our staff has absolutely failed to execute a reasonable plan at the QB spot.
