Portal QBs

I feel like there have been almost no comments in this thread about Colandrea, which kind of surprises me. Maybe everybody is just numb at this point even to good news (which would be understandable).

I think he's pretty good, though. I was hoping for a taller guy who had more of a pocket passer presence that can scramble or run 4-5 zone read keepers each game.

But as I watch Colandrea's highlights, the way he uses the bootleg and scrambling as a part of his game is pretty damn electric, IMO. It just feels like he plays with a lot of energy, and that might be one of the main things we need right now, period.

His highlights remind me of T. Martinez. So much fun to watch. I'm excited to see it next year on the field.

I'm excited to see him play.. personally a QB I thought we should/would pursue..

Almost makes the decommit worth it.. I just hope Dana can now scheme the offense that he wants to run behind a line that is effective.

I am waiting for the SIGNED tweet from the Husker program. Then he can get his own thread like DR and TJ

From what I've gathered from some podcasts talking about him. He will be exciting to watch. He is a runner and isn't afraid to get hit and not slide. While at Virginia (?) he had interception issues. However, after being at UNLV under Mullen? he dropped his INT numbers considerably.

So, the feeling is that he will be exciting to watch. He's a high energy guy. He will take risks and there will be plays where you're left scratching your head. However, after being with Mullen and now with our staff, hopefully, the exciting part stays and the scratch your head moments are far and few between.

I don't want to be a downer, but he had 8 fumbles last year too. And I convinced myself with Jeff Sims that a QB trending the right direction with turnovers had made actual improvements which I will not do again. Colandrea had INT rates of 3.7%, then 3.4%, then 2.2%. Jeff Sims had 5.1%, then 3.7%, then he was all the way down to 1.6% the year before transferring here. I don't think Colandrea is Jeff Sims, but he's a heckuva lot closer to Sims than the comparison many fans tried to make. (Chiles had INT rates of 3.4% and 1.5%, and a maximum of 4 fumbles in a year.)

I'm excited for Colandrea, he's going to be fun to watch. But I think some people are forgetting just how painful the bad plays and inconsistency can be with gunslingers. Aurich's defense better be a lot better at forcing turnovers if we're starting Colandrea (or Lateef for that matter) and we hope to keep our turnover margin gains from last year.

I hope we play the new QB w tempo and let him be himself. All too often I feel like we get guys here (offensive skill guys) and we never see them perform free-wheeling and with urgency. Just let them go play.
