Post-Season Pressers

Why not? He didn't offer up the comments, he responded to the media person asking if moving forward will be a reset? Rhule said no and stood up for himself. Which is okay for a football coach to do so. And people should stand up for themselves when questioned like that (baited).
Standing up for yourself is totally fine.

But this is the NIL Portal era. He is either still using players from the last stuff that fucked it all up...or he brought in players that suck.

That's something you might say in year 1, not defending your own program at the end of year 3. This is his show and the time for excuses is over.

I did not leave it out on purpose. I literally had no idea. It is Indiana.

But if you are arguing that Indiana was in a better spot than NU, well...
No I was strictly talking about Rhule's situation, but Indiana came up and I responded to that. He even noted that the Cignetti turnaround is unbelievable and praised how much quicker than everyone else.

I just don't think it's fair to compare success or the answer for everything becoming Cignetti.

"Why aren't you into the B1G championship game? Cignetti did it"
"Why aren't you ranked in the top 5? Cignetti did it"
"Why aren't you in the playoffs with a Bye week?" Cignetti did it"

Cignetti is the only college football coach to win Coach of the year in back-to-back seasons - ever - since the award came out in the 60's are something. Not Bear Bryant, or Switzer, or Osborne, or Bowden, or Jimmy Johnson or Woody Hayes or Bo Schembechler or Nick Saban or Kirby Smart etc.... There is only one Cignetti.

And there are hundreds of Rhules. Average coaches that do an average job at a school that has everything.

I am okay with it and what he said. 2 bowl games in back to back years. Hasn't been done since BP was coaching in 2013-2014. Long time ago. He stood up for himself and reminded people the program was a huge mess when he got here, and the last 2 coaches didn't have the success his program has now. Nothing wrong saying that and reminding us all.

I think the best way to look at it is like this...

Has Rhule shown anything that makes you think "Yeah, NU will be even better next year"

Probably not, right? That is a problem.
Pretty good point. However, firing Donnie Raiola was ballsy and had to happen. Letting DR walk away and doing his own thing was handled well. Firing the DC and DL coach is another good move. Also replaced his first OC Satterfield and changed his WR coaches. I mean, he is doing everything he can do get better coaches for the team. Success next year will be determined, but clearly not a playoff team for a few seasons from now - for sure.

He hired those coaches though...

Like, he was not a HS coach stuck with the science teacher on his staff because there was no one else.

He is doing all he can to get better coaches because he fucked up hiring good coaches.

Moving towards an mutual split next year, it seems. This never, ever ends positively.

You can't ask for more cash and then criticize people wanting an ROI.

The 2016 team was ranked for 10 weeks, as high as number 6.

It's WILD that it looks like Mike Riley is the best coach of the last decade

You’re making some sense. And I agree, there was some context to the questions Rhule was asked. Although it was fun to make snide comments about snippets of answers.

But, how many times has dumping your first (or second) set of assistants worked? I feel like we’re entering the desperation part of his tenure that precedes a firing/buyout. Kind of like a crashing plane dumping its fuel.

It is one thing if the asst coaches are leaving on their own for better gigs...

But rhule is hiring guys that he has to fire.
