Pre-Season Coaches Poll Released

These coaches have a lot going on right now and most spend about 10 seconds thinking about these rankings. If you are not a big10 coach you are going to base about 80% of your rankings on the previous year. It is time for NU to start gaining respect from everybody in the college football landscape.

that's not really saying much, lots of teams will break the 25, it doesn't say anything about staying there.

"........it’s almost more important that Nebraska take care of business against the number of beatable teams on its schedule — including Illinois, Indiana, Purdue and the like." --- I agree.

Past time!

Good. More fuel for the guys. We will be ranked top 20 after Oregon in all polls. We have no reason to get respect right now. However, I'm curious when the last a time a 4 year starting power 5 QB team was lower than #38. Probably never. Hell even mid major teams with a 4 year starting QB probably started higher.

Sarcasm Alert !

Saunders45 how dare you post that negative stuff. Dont your know that it will hurt the delicate feelings of the little darlings?

Those coaches... whoever they are... are not loyal Nebraska fans. They should be ban**d from ever having another thought in their heads about Nebraska... ever again.

Plus... Guy Chamberlin says he doesn't want anyone saying anything negative about Nebraska for 3 years... so this should have never been allowed to be said or printed or seen by anyone.

Although Guy Chamberlin also says that football is no longer a sport... it's an "Entertainment Business". So we should be happy that Nebraska is predicted by football coaches who do coach real football teams, to be the 38th most entertaining "entertainment business" in the country this year. So I'm sure Guy Chamberlin is very happy.
Guy Chamberlin finds you very silly.

Good... I'm glad there's no hard feelings.

So I would like to suggest...

When Devaney and TO were coaching we had the respect and admiration of the football world and the coaching world. I know... I know... there were some things bad said about us but on the whole we were admired by the football world, the coaching community and football fans of other teams.

But when TO retired... everyting changed... instantly. It was literaly like the football world, including the coaching profession saw us as pariah's.

And we've never gotten the respect back. We've had extreme difficulty hiring coaches... we get no respect even from up and coming coaches who are known by the coaching community... but they are never referred to us for coaching jobs.

The reason I hear all the time in real in person conversations with fans from other teams is that we appear to have an arrogant attitude... one of superiority... which we no longer are. We still hear Nebraska claiming that we "make" coaches... even though it should be obvious to us we don't do that. We habitually claim every year that "we are back"... but it's an empty boast.

I've always felt that we need to get humble... to show some humility. Admit that we are just a football program with loyal fans that want to play great ball again. We need humility...not arrogance.

Until that happens I don't think we will ever regain the respect of the football world. We need to show the football world that we are just regular, real people... and we need to ditch all the superiority crap.

I'd say there's a good chance we'll be ranked as early as week #3. (Well, game #3 for us. Not sure what week of cfb it is.) The Oregon game is going to be high profile. We take care of business against the Ducks--which I think is very likely--and we stand a good chance of hopping onto the polls. Just sayin..

I know we're friends now, and I really don't want to upset you, but there are a few things wrong with this post.

Nebraska did not become a pariah when Osborne retired. If anything, the glory years of 94 - 97 made us a pariah in the world of college football. Respected on the field, of course, but considered tainted by many outsiders for our rash of criminal enabling and by others who thought the timing of Osborne's retirement was aimed at wooing sentimental voters away from the '97 Michigan team ranked ahead of us. I'm not debating our worthiness of that NC, just stating the perception of the college football world. Just for context, Alabama's recent success and arrogance have made them the current pariah.

Things didn't change instantly when Osborne retired. Frank Solich had a blip of a transitional year, then had Nebraska right back in relevance with three consecutive high-ranked seasons that Tom Osborne would have been proud to own. The fact that Nebraska was selected for the NC game in 2001 after LOSING its own conference championship suggests Nebraska was perhaps coasting on too much respect in the college football world.

I have never in my life heard anyone brag that Nebraska is famous for "making" coaches. 2003 was the first real job opening at HC in 40 years, and that was the wake-up call that Nebraska wasn't every coach's dream destination. In fact, I honestly don't recall much bragging at all since then. There's been plenty of humility since Callahan, but on the other hand I don't see any need to get on bended knee to the Iowa's or even the Michigan's of the world.

We say "we're back!' in that hopeful way every year because that's what fans do, and for several seasons the college football press agreed with us, and some seasons we came tauntingly close to relevance.

After awhile, we were no longer automatic choices for the Top 25 because we simply hadn't earned it. So on that we agree.

But your posts are a pretty strange mix of decrying arrogance and then demanding it.

Also, you don't seem to understand the actual history of Nebraska football and the definition of entertainment.

But I'm glad we're friends.

Tennessee got a first place vote? Why?
IDK how they are in the top 25. They were terrible last year, but I guess they have the SEC thing going for them. The same can be said for Georgia. They have a new coach and no QB what so ever. That entire division is terrible. Florida sucks, South Carolina, Vandy, and Kentucky are garbage.

If you never heard that then you weren't listening. I had a "discussion" with someone here about that exact subject a couple of weeks ago... right here.

And that's exactly what I'm talking about. Arrogance causes people not to listen when other people talk because they think they're smarter or better than everyone else and don't feel the need to listen to what other people are saying. People connected to the program have been making claims about some special magic we had and all kinds of other nonsense for decades. And it's rubbed a lot people the wrong way. Today we literally have no friends in the football and coaching community. It's worse than it's ever been.

I've been a fan of Nebraska football for over 45 years... but once again your arrogance causes you to claim superiority over others that you don't have.

In fact I'll go one step further... you're exactly the type of person connected to the Nebraska program, I was talking about.

We need to regain our ability to be humble and stop with the superiority nonsense. Everyone else in the football world views it with contempt.
