Realignment and a Playoff

I absolutyely hate the BCS and how it has ruined the end of the College Football Season.
Just wondering, did you like the unresolved end of the 94 and 97 seasons? 90 and 91 were also split or uncertain IIRC, though I don't remember if there were 2 clear teams you'd want to have go at it going into the bowls.
I actually did like that (somewhat)..but probably unlike Bull ..I do feel that the BCS was a good compromise.

After reading his views on several similar threads, I think he's mainly pissed that all of the Bowl games aren't on New Years Day.

I live in an area with a lot of transplanted Football fans..I even work with a guy from Mechicken and we can (waste) hours on end arguing who was better in '97..I went to an AZ Rattlers arena football game once wearing (of course) one of my fav. Husker shirts and almost got spit on by an old timer working as an usher and muttering something about Penn State would have crushed us in '93 or '94...If my young Son hadn't have been with me, I might have thrown his walker down the steps. eyeswear2allthatsholy

Shure it would've been nice to prove our dominance over them, and I do feel for the players, but some of the best games are those that are never played..The right amount of controversy keeps it interesting in the long run...I can't even name a SuperBowl champion from the last decade.

I don't really care about the bowls that much..other than the economic impact it has in the Phoenix area each year which I suppose trickles down to me somehow?..And they ARE nice for the players (Student Athletes)..Many who play their last game there and half end their careers with a win..Why limit that experience to only one team and add several valuable games' experience to a few elite teams and give their underclassmen an additional "leg up" on the rest of the schools for next season..We could end up with 18-19 games in a season and other teams in our own conference will have to compete with us the next season with probably less than a dozen games the previous year...Just so we can have a "True? Champion".

Some years.. I still kept wishing for a 1-2-3 finish. like we had when I was eleven with OU and Colorado..I know it would never happen, but it was fun dreaming sometimes..That '71 Husker team has been mentioned by several as the best team of all time..or at least number 2..But that "Game of the CENTURY!!!" with OU was sooo close, there's no way I would expect to beat them again in a conference championship. or even OU beating the Buffs again that same year in a playoff.

You can say all games are still important, but not nearly as important as they once were..Which is sorta nice 'cause I no longer get suicidal for months after a loss .... :ahhhhhhhh

There's so much luck involved in seasons and especially games, which is part of the magic..The best team doesn't always win, and the old Bowl System and to a lesser extent sometimes, the BCS awards the team with the best overall season to be "Mythical" champions instead of who got hot or rested their starters at the right time toward the end of the season.

Forget the bowls. I can't stand the bowl system. The schools would make a ton of money by having playoff games at school stadiums, just as they do in FCS. The bowls can stay for teams that don't make the playoffs but I don't want playoff games held at bowl sites.

For anyone that thinks the bowl systems is great and doesn't want a playoff or wants a playoff using the bowl system, go read Death to the BCS. You will change your mind immediately and have such disgust for the bowl system.
I read that book and I agree the bowl system has become a huge waste. It's no wonder athletic departments are having trouble balancing the books.

I have a problem with any type of system that allows undefeated teams to not compete for the championship. I truly have gotten to where, if you run the table, there should be a reward for that by playing for a championship in your sport, ESPECIALLY if you're only one of two undefeateds in Division I FBS. The fact that we have a system that allows you to go undefeated and not have even a part of the national championship screams illegitimacy in the system. I love college football, but hate the fallacy of a national championship we have set up. It's not even close to a true championship. You can make all the arguments you want, about the regular system not meaning anything (you still have to win the vast majority of your games to sniff at a spot in the playoffs, so try again), about the tradition of the bowl systems (corruption run rampant and the tradition being taken out by most traditional tie-ins being axed a long time ago), more games = more time away from school and greater potential for injury (and yet we ask EVERY OTHER DIVISION/SUBDIVISION in the NCAA to do it... and in many ways, the argument is that the focus is on academics in lower divisions... hmmm... something hypocritical about that)... I haven't heard the argument yet that doesn't ultimately become a straw man that can be knocked down fairly easily.

I don't really care about whether people like the current system... that's your call... but don't try to prop it up as a true national championship, or that it's solved anything... because it's fairly apparent that it hasn't been close in what it was SUPPOSED to do. Hopefully, we end up with a playoff sooner than later... but I'm certainly not holding my breath, and I'll enjoy college football for what it is for the time being.

Absolutely! It gave us something to talk about during the boring doldrums of winter. aaaai still argue with my Michigan friends. I don't care what anybody says the game ended with two seconds left on the clock. Ryan Leaf should have had one more shot into the end zone.

Agree almost 100% H37. This is the first time I have ever supported a playoff. I love the debate. I also love ending the season on New Years Day. For the BCS to play their championship game on the 8th, 9th or 10th of Jan. and on a week night no less sacreligious.
