Rhule finally feels like the "right coach" for Nebraska

Closest to glory was the morning of December 1, 2012 in the Big Ten Championship game. Because Ohio State was out of the picture, all we had to do was beat an unranked 7-5 Wisconsin team we'd already beaten in the regular season. With a win the Husker would have been a Top Ten team playing in the Rose Bowl. That was a helluva meltdown.
That Kenny Bell block though

"The great thing is using your “standings” puts NU and Bo in the current playoffs at least once in 4 years. We would all take that."

Yeah, we'd take it. We'd feel pretty good instead of pretty bad for a quarter century now. It's just that Bo was flaming out, something on a personal level I suppose, and that would have happened just the same no matter our record over time. That whole saga was what Bo gave us, because that was how he responded to being an HC at Nebraska. He couldn't handle us (and our crappy higher-ups at that time). Out of his element..stuff like that. I'm glad he left for both of our sake.

Matt seems to be digging in and working at it; no grandstanding attitude and just blue collar tasking and dealings. It just might come out the way we want it here over time with him.

Agreed - BTN has been playing Nebraska classic games recently. I watched a couple of them and we honestly looked like crap even though we won. We were down 21-7 to a Northwestern team that wasn't good. Ron Kellog saved the day with a hail mary. Iowa was kicking our tail 24-7 despite turning it over numerous times and we somehow came back and won in overtime. Without De'Mornay's punt return for a TD, and a couple other significant returns that game, we lose. Bo won a lot of games because we were scrapy and tough and played with an edge. However, I never felt like we were well coached and surely weren't consistent.

Bo wasn't a very good coach. Wouldn't adapt. Hated recruiting. And played his favorite players instead of the "better" guys on the bench.

Yet he won more than any other coach we've had in the past 20+ years and had more draft picks that anyone else over the same time.

Crazy how all of those things can be true at the same time.

I found that maddening at the time. And it was then that I began to feel like Nebraska football had stooped too far to get some sort of winning going on. It was a very weird feeling for here, for us. I'll never forget that whole thing, that whole drama.

I liked Bo. BUT, I think a lot of his demise was losing Sanders and losing Carl. Sanders coached the heck out of the DB's and Carl was probably the only one who could tell Bo the truth and "keep him on task". A brand new staff with limited experience trying to recruit and recover from Cally. Needed to move on some coaches, but was loyal to a fault. And that cost him like other coaches we have had (BC, FS and maybe MR). One thing I really like (respect) about Rhule is he is making moves. In year 2 with dudes he had been with for years and helped at various spots and stops. I also think he "gets it". He's building depth in spite of NIL. Developing a culture that others are starting to notice. Hoping to see year 3 be a definitive step in the right direction, but won't be ticked if we don'y get double digit wins.....

Oddly enough, hit the reply and it will pull up the thread you want to "quote". I am unsure what the quote does tbh. I've hit it and it just highlights....

Use the Reply button to quote a single post.

The Quote button is for when you want to quote multiple posts. Hit +Quote on the posts you want to reply to, and then there's a button below the post entry box that says Insert Quotes. A box will pop up that lets you re-order the quotes if you want to.
