Riley Talks Offensive Plans

Gebbia isn't anymore of a runner than Lee is and they called his number in the spring game and he had a beautiful sprint out for his first TD in front of our fans. Great to keep the D on their toes .
There were also no blitzes in the spring game against a pretty soft looking defense. These guys are both very average QB's running wise at best. Also with Gebbia's frame the thought if him running around against even a decent defense is frightening.
Good thing they won't be running it every play. That's the whole point. They aren't scramblers so a QB run in the right place can catch the D off guard. Lighten up man, just because the spring game defense was vanilla doesn't mean that play can't be used as an example to show where we may use the QB run game and how it can still be effective without a RB playing QB
I agree with you that it can be used effectively near the goal line, especially when the defense isn't ready for it. We saw that a couple times during the spring game, and defensive scheme aside, it's a good indication of how the coaches are willing to utilize every weapon available to them on offense. That said, when you have a gun in one hand and a sponge in the other, you can't throw the sponge and count on the element of surprise to compensate the damage.

Didn't we play a team in the past five years that had a non running QB have 2 carries that went for like 125 yards against us - with either one or both being TD's. If you don't think the pass can setup the QB run then go watch that game

Passing QBs have negative rush yards because they take sacks and don't usually get carries. It doesn't mean they can't threaten on the ground with a QB draw every now and then, or just take off in the open field. The stats won't look pretty but that's besides the point.

Just a joke. The only way I would watch that game again is if I was forced...

I'm on your side in this argument, but looking at Lee's history it's tough to see how much of a " threat" he can actually be as a runner, even with a solid passing attack to assist him.

Agreed. Some of these responses are comical! Of course Nebraska isn't going to try to run Lee or O'Brien or Gebbia or whatever QB they have back there most of the time!!!! It will be very interesting to see how things play out this season for Lee presumably or who knows at some point O'Brien when the pocket breaks down and/or when opposing teams blitz Nebraska.

As I've said before line play is still going to be critical especially now with Nebraska's pro style quarterbacks versus the dual threat QB that has been our calling card. No more Tommy/Taylor Martinez like runs/scrambles or designed runs. Even if Riley/Langsdorf somehow throw in some designed QB runs I see them going over as well as our jet sweeps if that.

Personally I think you're going to see these QB's get rid of the ball quickly anyway taking away the need for this offense to rely on their feet as much as it has in the past.

yes, in general our 'jet' sweeps have been more like Cessna sweeps really. This is a gadget play to me and maybe use it once every other game or something or in those rare suprise circumstances. It is NOT a base or regular run game type of play in my view. Likewise, that will be the case with our QB designed runs or even scramble or those 'run for your life' cases. Our QBs are not speed burners by any means.

Gotcha - even thou some of my post may seem too creative / my mind isn't so i needed some help on the GIF. Yeah with Lee the "surprise" element might be our only chance.

Agree with the quick pass until our line can show their ability to hold off pressure. Would love to see the over / under of how many games gebbia would last with 3+ hits per game. He may need 2/3 years however has some true potential - guess if he works as hard in the weight room as he does in the film room he may be ready for the field in 1 year.

I agree. He just like Lee and O'Brien are going to need some protection obviously just like any other QB. Interesting take on the 3 hits. I wonder just how much a guy with a frame like his can beef up and how long will that take? For the record I thought he looked really good on that touchdown run he had where he took it around the corner to the end zone. He definitely isn't a statue back there so that's great.

No knock on TA, however these coaches and these QB's have been talking similar languages for along time - will be fun to watch!!!
