Rivals write up on spring in Lincoln

I blame some of the hype of a few past players on Callllahan. Some of the things he said about them made them look like saviors to the team and it didn't help that he couldn't develope players either. Bo puts all players on the same level, walkons included, and gives everyone a legitimate shot to show what they've got.
Be that as it may, the ridiculous amount of hype that HuskerBoard alone creates cannot be a good thing.

Because he needs to work on his throwing motion. Let's not jump the gun here - who knows if he will even start at NU (we hope so, but we are in the habit of anointing way too early), much less "jump for the NFL."

Gawd, I HATE it when someone says something like..."he needs to work on his throwing motion".Listen,I dont care if he throws it underhanded if he can complete passes at a 65 % clip nest year.I guess its a pet peeve of mine with those kind of statements. How about..."he needs to work on his accuracy"...I can take that.Or he needs to learn to read defenses better...I can take that BUT Throwing motion?WHO CARES as long as he completes em at a high percentage.

Agreed. Wasn't too long ago they used to shoot free throws underhand. It if went in the basket it counted...

I trust that Bo will get this kid in there if he feels he is ready. The last thing that I want to happen is that he is thrown to the wolves and loses confidence. It is definitely going to be a good old fashion battle....and I am sure Bo will have an open mind, unlike the other "QB battle" we had with Ganz and Keller.

What if by "fixing" his throwing motion he goes from 50% to 65% completions? I agree with you in that I don't care how he throws if he's getting the job done. But you're making an awful big assumption that he can get the job done and doesn't need more coaching.

This is not my evaluation but has been stated by others (i.e BigWillie) on this board. It's even mentioned I think in his ESPN scouting report, where he's not even listed as a quarterback. And yet still many are expecting him to be a Pryor.

IIRC, a summary of what's been said: Cody can thrive in the offense he's in by passing it off to AJ Dugat and letting him rack up the yards. He has the tools but does not consistently make all the throws that he will definitely need to make at the next level. And with his throws being "all arm" as they often are now, he's going to do some long-term damage to his arm if that's not fixed, and that's what I mean by fixing his throwing motion.

There's a difference between getting away with odd mechanics and pulling it off, as some have done, and just not being a polished enough passer to be a starting QB at the Division 1 level at this time.

I for one do not know what a "proper throwing motion" looks like other than I probably do not have one. I do however know what a proper 12oz. curl looks like. I think I'll do some training for perfectiontonight...

You should add another 12 oz and alternate arm lifts! You will see results in half the time.

Since this has turned into another can CG start thread, I'll throw in my .02, again. It would be hard for me to believe CG could come in and outperform the guys (who are good qb's also) that have experience running the offense, even if not in game situations. I don't know how much influence TO has on the situation, but if his preference of not playing newcomers is any indication, I would guess he will caution Bo against it. CG would probably have to make the other guys look like junior high players to get even a sniff of running with the 1's.

I thinking even Bo is trying to temper expectations by using statements like, "Rome wasnt built in a day"

I say put Green on the scout team this next year then let him compete with Spano/Lee/Witt for the starting job in 2010. To fully grasp this offense in a few short months seems like a daunting task. Add in the fact that this is his first year at college away from home. A lot for a young man to deal with. I do think Bo will give him an equal chance to earn the job but I don't think there is any chance he'll get it this year.

What would be great is if Ganz would come back as a grad assistant and work with the quarterbacks. I think he would be a fantastic coaching addition.
