What do we have to do to get rid of Jim Rose? The guy in un-listen-to-able ( I know that's not an actual word, but it's appropriate here). We deserve so much better. I used to love turning down the TV volume and listening to the home broadcast. I stopped doing that last year. Yes...Brent Musburger is more tolerable than Jim Rose. This is the first time that I was forced to listen to this clown, since I wasn't able to go to the game ans it wasn't televised. I got to tell you, I had to force myself to keep listening.
My issues with this clown are twofold.
1. He calls the play-by-play as if you are sitting in the stadium or watching the game with him. I can put up with all him annoying "colorful" metaphors, so long as I get down and distance, the yardline, the time, summary of the personnel package and occasionally the score. I think he assumes we can all just look us at husker vision and see these things...so it's not that important to include them in his commenatary.
2. I can't stand how he has to get in his pre-scripted new way of calling a play or describing the situation is a new flowery way before he actually tells the results of the play. An example:
Rose: "Myers drops back to pass. He throws an arial to the east hash mark...OH....AND THE PASS IS...ALMOST INTERCEPTED BY A SLASHING BO RUUD. That was so close to a turnover on this beautiful Saturday afternoon at Memorial stadium....but the pass is incomplete to Todd Blythe."
All I want is for him to tell me the pass is incomplete. The other information is fine...but the incomplete pass is the important portion of the call. Give me that first!
Am I completely off base here? Maybe I've just decided I can't stand his game calling so it just continues to drive me nuts...but it has to drive others crazy too.
Thoughts?
