In their efforts to argue “Bo was wonderful. Coz is not,” they have violated truthful reporting and our trust.

That's a very, very substantial core of senior leadership and NFL-quality talent on the '03 squad. And gone from our 2004 defense.

Shatel & Chatelain will not apologize to those players for slighting them. Or to Cosgrove. Or to us. But they should.

Which is true, no shoddy reporting there. And most of the returning backups had played quite a bit, they were far from green. Also, they had 3 All American caliber players on the 2004 defense.

I believe that Solich was replaced because of the offense, primarily. His defense wasn't too bad, although Pelini got BLOWN OUT at UT, UM and home against KSU in 2003!

Basically you answered your own question. If it only takes 6 players leaving a program for such a dramatic effect to occur, then there was obviously a canyonous talent gap somewhere during Solich's tenure. Seems from the stories Ive heard that (not just Solich) but the old school type coaches would pull in a few big ones, and then rest on their laurels for a few seasons. That might have worked back in the days when a team could stack the decks with 100's of scholly players and let the talent emerge, but not in the modern CF arena. Falling asleep at the wheel is the reason Solich got guillotined.

Yep, the same team that lost to New Mexico, who finished 4th in the Big 12 South, and who lost to UT by 30. Yes, they ARE mediocre.

Basically you answered your own question. Only 2 of those guys were guys who were head and shoulders better than the guys behind them (Hollowell and Williams). The rest of the guys returning either were starters or had significant playing time (co-no 1's??) in 03.

The main change was the coaches and their systems.

Dude, three quarters of our secondary quit on the team, We lost our only form of pass rush from the previous year (Demorrio Williams), and the defense was on the field twice as much as they were the previous year. I would say that logic dictates that that defense was set up to lose, and lose they did. The circumstances are much different this year, and that should not happen again.

I hate to spoil a good fight between the anti-Peterson clan and the pro-Peterson group. The opinions on both sides are irreconcilable and it doesn't make any difference to the performance on the field next month. It is abvious that the "proof is in the pudding", so no matter what your grudge is, the Huskers will do what they're going to do. I would just suggest that bringing up points to bash your nemisis is futile and merely self-serving, with no redeemong value to the program. Constructive criticism has its place, if it's edifying to the message board participants.

Solich/Byrne is "water under the bridge" and what's ahead is the only subject that's important. If we win the Big 12 North, shouldn't we all be happy? Please note that Chancellor Perlman hired Peterson and knew exactly what he was going to do!

Not too long ago USC had a disasterous record, meaning losing seasons. Fans don't have patience and don't want to give up glory days of old. Remember, TO changed the offense in '77 to a pass oriented, Ferrogama led club. There was a time that he was almost run out of town and interviewed for the CU job becasue of a certain powerful alumnus from Omaha. Are you glad he stayed? Give this AD and his coaches a chance!
