Should we fire Satterfield??

I mean, giving him every benefit of the doubt, there is not one f#&%ing reason to not fire him. Forget about what he’s done wrong, he has done absolutely nothing good.

Think about this... Last year we had a poor O line, a decimated RB room, a TE coming off two blown knees, like one receiver, and (God bless him) a TE at QB. This year, you have a decent O line, two 6'4" WRs, two freak TEs, Barney, Rahmir, a power back (I'll give Dowdell credit he can pick up short yardage), and a 5* Freshman QB. Yet both season the best you can do in conference play is 21 pts against Pur-fing-due.

Modestly competent coaches could get this team to 7 wins.

But we don’t have that. We have first timers and guys who’ve never sniffed anything close to competence. This is what Rhule did with the biggest assistant pool a Neb coach has ever had.

It was pointed out at the time. But glossed over because Rhule won a bunch of worthless games at Baylor over terrible teams. And we have resident apologists that cope for Satterfield and McGuire as if they were savvy hires. But they’re not. We’ve regressed.

+1.

The way we were trying to air it out in the gun today wound up being really bad. I was wrong about that potentially being the answer.

It's so weird to me that consistently running with a lead blocker seems to be roughly the last thing the staff tried. Like, heading into this season I would have sworn that would be the staple.

It's confusing at best and flat out ridiculous at worst. I don't think Raiola was ready for what he was asked to do today. And it took our staff way too long into the game to figure that out. It's bad coaching.

Rhule has worked with Foley, Satterfield, Thomas, McGuire's Dad etc at multiple stops.  He talks of family all the time, players and coaches included.  I don't think he's going to fire anyone unless forced to. I don't see how they can force him either, so a lot of you might want to go ahead and consider this possibility now before you're blindsided by it at the end of the month.

I figured out UCLA's game plan after the second blitz. At that point the passing game needed to be simplified and give Dylan max protect (though the RBs did miss some blocks), or have RBs chip and catch the check downs all night. Sat should be telling Dylan what to look for on the headset each play, and we should be running meshes, TE hooks, and underneath screens until they respect us and back off the pressure. God forbid you actually run outside the tackles too if they are blitzing up the middle...

Yep. UCLA ran a toss play for like 8 yards today and I was just like "damn I can't believe we aren't doing stuff like this."

Rhule specifically said "we're not going to be a spread offense." We were in spread-ish looks quite a bit today. The staff is struggling to put together a game plan to consistently move the ball down the field.

I think our line is good enough and the overall talent is good enough. Yes, Raiola was bad at finding the open man quickly. But why did we ask him to do that so many times?

He hasn’t been ready for what he’s been asked to do all year long.   The staff way overestimated the mental ability of a true freshman starting QB in the Big10.  And no I’m not calling DR dumb.  I’m saying it’s dumb to have a full playbook for a true freshmen to run.  The coaches did a disservice and that’s a huge coaching mistake

They don’t need max protect.    They need receivers to enter the vacated space by the blitzes and throw hot.  The receivers and QB need to read this and each play should be designed to allow them to read it.

So we need to go find a coach like cignetti who just wants to win and don’t care how he does it. I don’t get the feeling he would tolerate poor staff. He values winning over relationships. I think Rhule, frost, Riley value the latter. We need to find our cignetti.

honestly Miami stole oregons coach. I think we do the same. Give lanning 12 million. I see a fire in that dude. He will win a natty

Like when we are inside the 10 and suddenly decided to switch from 12 or 21 (whatever it was) personnel to a shotgun spread look

Absolutely agree with this.  Things need to be simpler for DR
