Should we fire Satterfield??

Adjusting sacs and scrambles to passing yards, yesterday we had (I think) 40 pass plays for 209 yards and 33 run plays for 113 yards.

That's 5.2 yards per passing play and 3.4 yards per running play.  Even with a QB who struggles and WRs who struggle to get open we are still significantly better moving the ball through the air.

We do not run the ball well.  We are not good at what Rhule says he wants to do.

Why do people want to insist that we should be doing that more?

First, and I'm honestly not taking an aggressive tone here at all, but point to the place in my post you quoted where I said that we should have called more run plays than we did in the UCLA game. I think I was very clearly saying that I am simply confounded by what we wound up doing when the schedule got tough versus what I thought the staff was actually saying they'd do.

Secondly, if your yards per play in your passing game aren't more than your yards per carry then you have a legendarily bad QB. You'd almost have to be trying to get those stats to work out that way. Because we're of course talking about yards per play here.

And the nature of the forward pass almost always makes it wind up having a higher yards per play average versus yards per run - unless again you have a QB that is on the verge of being legally blind.

You know a lot about football, so it's weird to me that you'd bring that argument up in the first place.

Yes! Today…. No yesterday! There is no defense of the job he has done. It’s terrible. If I were Tony white I would hate him, he’s wasting an amazing defense, what could be a 10 win season because he can’t move the ball or put up points. He’s wasting Raiola…so transfer portal here he comes…get rid of him now!

Ya the important part doesn't show unless you click on it. Satterfield is tied for 8th highest paid OC in the nation. Pitiful. If you're going to bring in your friend to be OC, and he doesn't have a proven track record, he shouldn't get paid that much. And I'm sure he would have settled for less. The AD shouldn't have let that happen. He was only paid $900,000 at SC. I suppose Rhule could've said he wasn't coming unless he got that, but then we should have hired a different coach.
And Thomas came in as Co/OC and QB coach making $800k.....Is DR getting better or worse?  I also wonder if there is a conflict in teaching/methodologies between Thomas and his private QB coach Jeff Christian.

I have some friends who are South Carolina fans, they were so happy when he left for Nebraska.  Oh and SC had a big win yesterday.

Also I think most people are talking more situationally. Needing to effectively run the ball when we need to.

Also take away a 50 yard pass and the average of the other 39 is equal to the run game so about what you said about the QB would have to be legally blind

Correct me if I’m wrong, but yards from sacks affect net rush yards? Then it would be 135 yards rushing on 33 attempts. Considering the 4-5 carries inside the 5 yard line that were stuffed, the average looks better. Running between the 20s was what moved the sticks.

For sure. Just looking at the game summary without situational context doesn’t tell the whole story.

We need Bo Pelini 2.0 to arrive here once again.  We need some excitement put back into this joint.  Simple.  We can not attract a bigger name than Rhule actually was.  We can't.  Stop yourself from thinking that way.  Stop.  Urban Meyer won't come here.  Saban won't come here.  The issue is guys like Rhule have climbed too the top and made their money and now don't feel as if they have to prove themselves anymore.  I say, that's wrong, and he should prove himself even more now.  I think he cares and has put in some effort, but not the same effort he put into Temple and Baylor in his first few years.  Urban Meyer once was an assistant waiting for a chance.  Saban once was an assistant waiting for his chance.  Tom O was an assistant before he was the man.  Stop hiring some others trash.  We seem like a charity case for lost and found coaches.
Im not talking about getting a new hc lol. I hate to break it to you but Rhule isn’t going anywhere until at least end of next year and that would require a 3rd losing season.

im talking about spending our money appropriately for a OC who has actually done something.

Rhule is going to be here for 2 more years minimum, regardless of the on field outcome, due to the buyout. He also isn’t firing his long time friends. Someone may "retire", like Foley but I highly doubt Satterfield is going anywhere.  They've worked together for 8 years at 4 schools.  We signed up for this with giving Rhule an 8 year, 70+ million contract.  Better settle in folks, more of the same at Nebraska.

I'd love to be wrong but my intuition tells me I'm not.

I wish there was a thumbs down reaction.  Or a throwing up one.  I hope you are wrong, but Rhule won't be let go.  Maybe some guys are sacrificed, but can't see it being his best bud..  Like Cally and Coz, Riley and Banker (he was a hell of an interview though) etc....Be his undoing.

If we start letting staff go people and coaches are going to start to jump ship at the first chance.  I dont know the answer, but i think were stuck here until they firgure it out or we have no choice but to move on.
