Southern Miss fan here

NU is DEFINITELY better than any team we played last year. Houston was the best offense in the country and we held them to 3 td's. Then again Houston shouldn't have even had the right to put their sorry defense on the field. That being said, I'm really interested in seeing how we handle the physicality of your team. One of you also said we only have one good pass rusher. We lost our 2 interior DT's but I think we're even better at that position this year. Watch for Octavious Thomas coming around the end quite a bit forcing T-Mart to scramble (this may hurt us in the long run.) We return 4 OL from last year, which makes that unit our strength. However, I'm really worried about QB. The guy that will most likely start for us is 6'4" 240, but hasn't taken a single snap in a real game. Especially playing at Memorial, I think this could very well spell disaster for us.
Is he mobile?
Runs a 4.65. Faster than our QB last year who got yards when he needed them. However, watch for our best recruit of last years class. Name is Anthony Alford. We should see him at QB in some packages at different time in the game. Kid is an extreme athlete.

Yes we offered him as well. From Petal, MS right?

That Alford kid is a hell of a baseball player.

He actually signed with the Blue Jays. He still plans on playing both MLB and CFB. Don't see how or why.

Welp, then we're SOL. Mobile QB's have been our kryptonite.

I expect that to improve some with Katz's ideas that Bo has liked.

If Alford is the better athlete it would be to your benefit to use him extensively. We are usually pretty inept at stopping dual threat players.

You guys that are seriously taking jabs at Southern Miss fans are ridiculous. The man has said nothing wrong and just defended his team in a respectable manner. Put me in the crowd that is somewhat nervous to see what this game brings. I do think we win, but I will not discount that team. Idk what it is about southern miss, but they always seem to have a wealth of athletes.
They get the athletes that have enough morals to not be bought by the $EC

i have the feeling it will be like Fresno State last year. Keeping it close, only to have a costly mistake and a few big plays by us. If we lose however, i feel we all would be surprised. If you had your QB back from last year, who i watched in a few games, then id be nervous as all hell that it would be a nail biter. Especially when you pointed out that you held Houston to only 3 TD's. Now they are very one sided, and it fit right into your defense with 5 db's, but that being said, we would need to beat you by running it most of the game. All in all i think we prevail but your guys will be motivated and ready to play, especially because you won last time in Lincoln.

37 -14 NU
I'll raise you....45-14 NU
You guys should be pretty confident coming into this game. But not quite that confident. I think all of you will be surprised at how athletic yet physical we are. We CERTAINLY don't look like a CUSA out there. Anyone of you ever heard of Jamie Collins?
While it could be closer, I think 31-14 is about right. NU puts up a couple TD's in the 4th quarter to pull away. NU should have a really good offense this season and an above average defense. USM is playing in Lincoln with a new coaching staff, so I'm not sure you can reasonably expect better than that.

Every CUSA/MAC/Sunbelt fan that comes on this board points out that their team is better than we think. But that rarely ends up being the case. Of course, in the era where Michigan lost to App. St., absolutely anything is possible.
I don't doubt it and I get what you are thinking. But if we DID win this game, it wouldn't be a "shock the world" "oh my goodness what just happened" upset. We have a very good team this year and I expect us to compete with Nebraska better than you think we will. I'm not saying we will win at all, but as a Southern Miss fan that's certainly what I'm hoping for.
If I remember correctly, Southern Miss came into Lincoln and won the last time (2004). Trust me, your team has our full, undivided attention and respect.

Welcome. If you guys would have kept your QB i think this would have been a better game. I dont expect this to be as close as some others think. We will have to score under 10 points to lose this game. Losing a QB is huge in college, and lets face it, everyone thinks the backup is going to be great, but if he was that good he would have been starting last year. Alford is going to be good, just not as a true freshman, in his first game....on the road...against our D..if he even plays. Hard to break in a qb against one of he best defense you will probably see all year.

I think he will play. He might even start if he really pulls ahead in fall camp. I think you guys can certainly score more than 10 and still lose. Our offense was top 15 last year and have a good bit of it coming back. But you're completely right. Our overall performance for this game and the rest of the year resides on the shoulders of our QB.

Last time Southern Miss was in Lincoln they beat us. Wouldn't surprise me to see this be a two-touchdown game. Or closer. The Golden Eagles have been known to rise to the level of their competition. Just ask this guy: LINK

Oh yeah, welcome to the board Eaglecrazy4. Hope you stick around for a bit. I apologize in advance for any rude, trollish things I may say. Especially if we don't handle the Southern Miss game like we think we should.
