I kind of agree. Certainly a different look than wha we're used to seeing when compared to their other movie trailers posters. I'm more of a fan of their trademark style of their previous movie posters if you want to call it that.
It's more of a meh for me but trailer looks interesting

Nothing against Mark Hamil, but aside from his ... functional role as protagonist of the legendary original trilogy, he's really made his mark in voice acting.
TFA part 1 really featured Han Solo, but Harrison Ford is a veritable cinema superstar, so that made sense. There's a danger in going too much Luke here. The old characters are here to anchor the new trilogy in the nostalgia of the old, but the story must progress beyond them. TFA should have been the passing of the torch already. I'll be disappointed if Eps. 8 & 9 are "Okay, Han. It's Leia's turn, then Luke's." This is Rey (et al.)'s story, dadgummit!

I think if written well having a movie featuring an already existing character such as Luke could definitely work and be really good also. Again it just feels like TFA pt 2 as Poe, Finn, Rey, BB-8 and Kylo Ren are all back. It's still Star Wars so I'm sure in the end I'll like it. I won't lie and say seeing the exact same characters from 2 movies ago didn't necessarily have me jumping out of my seat.

I think so, but I also think that in addition to Hamil not really being a good fit to carry the franchise, his character's had his story told. It's time for new stories. To me, the entire point of this trilogy is to tell the stories of the new characters. So of course Rey, Finn, Poe, and BB-8 are back. They're the centerpiece of this trilogy...and not to mention, each of the humans in this list is a tremendous rising talent in the film industry.

After watching the trailer a few times and looking at the poster I think there's some clues to possibly be gleamed?
I imagine the story will center around, in some respect, Luke training Rey the way Yoda trained him. However, because of being emo but also enlightened Luke, and the last Jedi left, he's come to a conclusion that the Jedi could never bring balance to the force because they shunned all things dark, and so by training Rey he's ushering in a new edgy ultra Jedi order that embraces light and dark, and Kylo Ren will not be super far off from the same spectrum - his motivations are still largely a mystery, but a good theory is that he is manipulating the dark side by embracing it in order to ultimately vanquish Snoke.
The gradient from blue to red in that poster's lightsaber is no accident.

Pretty good guess at it I'd say.
It will be interesting to see how much time they spend on the training and Luke's backstory. It was obviously almost the entire trailer. I'm sure it won't be the entire movie but will it be 10%? 25%? 50%?

You're talking about Luke being a Grey Jedi; a Jedi who is Light-focused, but will dabble with Dark tendencies, without allowing the Dark side to overcome them. It's a true balance to the force, rather than having more Jedi than Sith or visa versa. Hell, we've already seen Luke use the Dark Side before.

I still think the title just implies that up until Rey came along to train with Luke, he was the last Jedi. Luke's comment in the trailer makes me think he is looking to create a new sect of force wielders maybe?

My buddy told me an interesting theory I felt like sharing with all of you, and it would be a huge plot twist if true.
What if Finn is under the influence of the First Order, although it may be influencing him subconsciously?
The theory is based on a few major points:
1) Finn was trained his whole life to do one thing and admits to this. Yet, in the moment of truth, he is unable to do it. No other Stormtrooper appears to have had this problem. Almost the entire plot of Ep. 7 hinges on Finn's defection and helping Poe escape captivity. This is awfully convenient for the Resistance, and plays a huge role in The First Order almost getting the map to Skywalker.
2) In conjunction with one, we know that the Sith/Empire can control minds as they did with the Clones, which was evidenced by the Clones blindly following Order 66 and killing the Jedi. Could they be subtly influencing Finn's decisions, waiting in the shadows to strike when the Resistance is most vulnerable?
3) Ren stares Finn down in the opening scene battle and immediately knows it was him (by name) when they find out that Poe escaped. Finn also struggles to beat a Stormtrooper with a shield baton at Maz Kanata's, yet is able to go toe-to-toe with Ren at the end in a lightsaber duel. Ren wounds Finn, but doesn't ensure his death. Did Ren really want to kill Finn?
As with all theories, there are some weak links (like why did Ren allow The First Order to shoot-to-kill Finn/Poe when they were escaping the starship). But, this theory would certainly be a huge bomb shell, particularly because everybody has been so focused on Rey's parent situation.
