Respectful request - can we stop with the defensive guru stuff? We all know Bo is a respected defensive coach, and he has the hardware to prove it, but even the best of coaches have rough years. Urban Meyer, anyone? His last year at Florida wasn't exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread. Today's game is filled with so much parity that all coaches are going to struggle at some point. Why do we have to slight Bo in this way?
Tackling has been an issue all season, especially tackling for losses. Almost every time we have a guy in the backfield, we either take a bad angle at him or we don't wrap him up. We've seen that this coaching staff, mainly the retained coaches, can produce very good tacklers. I thought our '09 and '10 defenses were very good tacklers for the most part. This comes down to the players not getting it and not executing, which will eventually happen with time and experience. In one of our games this year, Carl Pelini could be seen on the sidelines saying "I don't know what to tell you anymore." They're telling the kids what to do and how to do it, and they're not doing it.
Don't forget, though. A defensive line that was going to be a strong suit is suddenly very thin because of injuries (most notably Crick and Rome), our secondary is littered with young guys who have had little experience and we lost good defensive players to the NFL. Every team is going to have a drop off after something like that, especially a team like ours that can't recruit the same kind of kids LSU or Bama can.
