Tangent Thread - October/November 2017 Edition

I agree as well - apologies to all for taking it down this path. My final thought (we can go PM or find another avenue if you wish to continue discussing Redux, but I think it has run its course):

Throughout this entire conversation, I have used words like "some" or "part" when describing the Husker fans who behaved inappropriately. You extrapolating this to saying "I find it interesting you're willing to put the "whole" fan base in the line of fire" feels unfair and inaccurate. I've been saying some Husker fans are culpable for the extra backlash from some UCF fans against our fan base.

Lastly, I felt I made it pretty clear that this isn't about Frost becoming our coach. I explicitly stated above this is part of the college football business. My main focus has been on those in our fan base who made the situation worse by acting condescending, trolling their message boards and attending games in Husker gear. It just wasn't a good look and it enabled animosity. It does not excuse the disgusting language used by some UCF fans towards us, but it does explain why the problem has gotten worse.

And I'm not disagreeing that some of our fans do deserve SOME of the backlash.  But I feel the snark from our side was far outweighed by the backlash received from a fanbase who frankly had never been there before.  Your responses imply that we should all just be okay with their nasty response, at least that's the way I took it.

I think we're a bit more on the same page, then.

I definitely don't think we should be OK with how some UCF fans have been treating our fan base but, as stated previously, we had a lot of our fans who helped enable that behavior. Casually, I saw some pretty bad things from our fans. I also saw a lot of things that on the surface seemed harmless/innocent but would be pretty offensive to us if the roles were reversed. Nobody likes to feel like they're belittled or beneath someone else. Inherently, the situation was going to cause tension, but I'm disappointed that some Husker fans couldn't be a little bit more respectful about it all. I think you get where I'm coming from even if you don't buy into it as deeply as I do and that's cool. No harm, no foul.

The same definitely goes for UCF, though - I know they're mad/frustrated, but taking it out on our fan base as a whole is very misguided.

This ^^^^ post seems rather accusatory, as if you seem to think he's letting himself get injured on purpose.  That may not be your intent, but that's what I am picking up as the subtext of your comment.

You are really good at finding portions of quotes to make interesting comments regarding
