Taylor Martinez presser on chemistry & leadership

Is "cancer" really the term we want to use here? I think it's fairly obvious Zac was - deservedly - a very well-liked member of the team. I think it's fairly obvious that everyone and their dog expected him to retain the spotlight last year. When he didn't, there was, understandably, some disgruntledness. Does that mean the guys that were disgruntled were a cancer?

I think there were many times when cohesion on the team would have made things better. I think it would have translated to better effort, less sloppiness, and maybe a couple more wins. I could point out several guys, seniors, who gave lackluster efforts in several games last year, both on offense and defense. I don't think we can attribute that to Taylor taking over for Zac, although in Tayor's presser he's understandably focusing on his situation (not to mention, that's the question he was asked).

I don't want to quibble over words used. I just wonder if cancer is the most descriptive. And I would gather that da skers was simply making a point, and wasn't pondering over his choice of words for several minutes like I am in this post.

Niles was a huge cancer when it came to Taylor. Williams was a close second.
Recurring themes this year seem to be leadership, cohesion, and team-building. The more I read about last year the more I see why.

This seems like revisionist history to me. We heard the exact same things last off-season, with the bracelets, the posters saying "finish", etc. etc., and Niles Paul was at the forefront of it. We'll see if these words actually mean anything.
It wasn't exactly the same last year. The whole "finish" theme was about letting the big12 ccg slip away (plus the goal of winning the conference) the off-season theme seemed to be "work harder to make that extra play"... But I do kinda agree, all off-season talk is basically the same.

Once Martinez was named the starter, Niles basically said he wasn't happy that he wasn't going to get as many catches in the revised offense. In the CCG and Bowl game you could really tell the oline was not on board by how they were playing.

It's those individual attitude problems that were still holdover from the Callahan era (imo) that hopefully Beck and his "instil the culture of the defense on offense" will weed out. It causes problems and those problems have a tendency to compound each-other, as we saw many times last year.

You can believe this if you want but those guys, Paul, Lee, McNeil, well they all chatted all off-season when they were working out, drinking, meeting girls, about how they would going to throw for this and that and catch this and that and have this many TD's, well when that gets taken away from you and your friends, it is really hard to not be bitter.

they had to be really high from the Arizona game too

Heard the exact same. I also was told McNeil was not the most pro-TMart either.

This was unbelievably and painfully obvious in Mike's body language throughout the season.
Yea I still remember the Idaho game.... McNeill running off the field, said something to Bo and Bo fired back with one of his red in the face outrages. After watching the previous offense series you knew what McNeill was b*tching about. Nobody made a big deal about it because the game was on PPV.

I remember that. It was when Taylor threw a ball in the dirt about 3-5 yds short of a wide open McNeill. Can't remember if Taylor was throwing on the run or not, but I remember McNeill getting mad.

Okay...

Link? ;)

And I would have figured you'd ask da skers if he was in the locker room with Keith Williams, etc. Because a locker room dynamic and what is in the minds of players is something we can't know first hand, right?

I think taylor actually rolled out, set his feet and then threw. McNeill is still running if the ball is anywhere close to him.

cant wait to see what you have to say when Taylor walks away from NU with darn near every QB record in hand, a NC, and a serious contender for the Heisman, in atleast one of the next three years. He was a freshman learning on the fly, get over it, we won the game

Wait, what part of what he said will that make inaccurate besides the errant pass?

This why I cant stand you Pro-Taylor guys.... anyone who is critical of Taylor is automatically bashing him. In that post did I bash Taylor?? No. Hell I wasnt even being critical.

So get over it.
