Tempered expectations . . .

Yeah we won Ten games with a horrid offense!!! I think that is where alot of people get the hype,if we can win 10 with that offense and if we are even imporved alittle bit we could be a title contender. The line for me is the big question mark. If they can hold up with out any injuries I think or offense will be much better take the pressure off the QB who ever that is. Be able to run the ball some out of the wildcat and keep teams guessing what we are going to do. I think we will be better then we were last year I just dont know how much better we will be. Defense will let them score a little more then last year so you will have to have your offense score a little more then they did last year.
Yes but our horrid offense was shelved to play "milk the clock" so our D could win. Our offense may be better this year but it doesn't guarantee extra wins. A better offense leads to taking more chances which could lead to more turnovers. Don't get me wrong I don't like the "shell" offense. We will open it up more but the results won't necessarily be better.

I think most would agree that Bo/Carl have proved their talent for coaching on the defensive side of the ball. Actually in an almost miraculous way.

However, on the other side of the ball..... :dunno

We all hope the best for our offense. But there's nothing but hope so far.

eh. Just like the gameday crew, someone has to play devils advocate. Damons 'hype' is no different than national title contender talk.

At the end of the day I think that the positive outlook it based on 1)The defense will still be great give or take a small step back and 2) The offense has to be better, this is Nebraska and although we are not the going to be the next Florida we have to be better. Overall the improvment on offense will overshadow any step back on defense. I don't mean to say the offense will be incredible but I trust the D to stay strong.

What makes everything tough is that all the other teams will also change ........ I think that Oklahoma will have a better season and Texas is due for a slight step back.

I hope that all this means that we get to beat Oklahoma and Texas this year.

I think one thing we luck out with is that the Big 12 isn't necessarily going into as strong a year as it did last year in terms of star power returning to the top teams. Texas and Oklahoma both lost key guys at the major skill positions so honestly it's anyone's league to take this year as all of the major players in the conference are in rebuilding mode moreso than they have been in past years. The thing I do worry about though is A) our offense and B.) the starters we lost on defense and more importantly how their replacements will perform. I'm excited as ever for the season to start but because of our offense last year and losing the guys we did on defense the bottom line is that I am cautiously optimistic. This team again I feel will need time to figure out itself with all of the question marks offensively and to a lesser extent defensively. I am stoked for this season nonetheless and excited at the possibilities of (hopefully) becoming even better than we were last year. One thing is for sure, I definitely feel we have the best coaches in the league! Period!

Bottom line: Cautiously optimistic but very excited for this season regardless.

and I would love it if someone knew the answers (and they were answers like, "Great!" "No problem!" "Top notch!")
Ahem. After polishing off my offical Napoleon Dynamite Time machine.. "ouch" I have the official answers to these questions.

[*]Who will our quarterback be, and how will he perform? All three will play but Cody Green and Taylor Martinez will split most of the time. Both will rush for over 800 yards this season. Green will pass for about 1200 yards. Martinez under 700.

[*]Will our O Line stay healthy, and will they be effective? Yes, they will be the second best O line in the conference[

[*]Has Roy overcome his propensity for injuries? Mostly

[*]How will our passing game perform, and will our WRs be dangerous? Niles Paul will be all conference . Kinnie will make great strides. McNeil will make an impact.

[*]Will our propensity for stupid penalties at the worst time finally end? Again, mostly

[*]Have we got a handle on our turnover problems? Yes. FAR less turnovers in 2010

[*]How will Baby Steinkuhler do this year, and will he be half as effective at wreaking havoc as Suh? He will do well and yes, about "half" as effective

[*]Who will replace Barry Turner, and will Allen and Meredith/Ankrah get pressure off the end? Cameron Meredith and yes

[*]Who will fill Phil Dill's shoes? Will the light turn on for Will Compton? Will Compton and Yes

[*]Will Eric Martin "get it" and terrorize opposing offenses like I think he will, or is he still a year off? Martins Reign of terror begins NOW

[*]Will LaVonte David make an impact this year or will the different speed cause him trouble? David will adjust tp the new speed and level of play on an average level and be full impact in 11

[*]Who will replace O'Hanlon's tackling and ball-hawking instincts? PJ Smith

[*]Will Prince Amukamara have another stellar year? Damn right he will. All American style!

[*]

Will PJ Smith be able to keep up, or will he be abused in his first year as a starter? See above

[*]Will Eric Hagg finally become the monster he always should have been? Hells yeah! Remember Tom Ruud in the 78 OU game? DejaVU!!!

[*]Will DeJon Gomes have a zillion INTs this year? 15

There ya go. Hope that helps.

I think why we finally believe we are back is cause our Bo Pelini said we are back. We've seen what he has done with this team so we believe we are gonna continue to improve. Not take a step back.

Otherwise i agree with Suh_fan93: Cautiously Optimistic

It's a good point. Bo has always been very critical of the team.

Every team around the country will always have questions without answers during the offseason whether they had a losing/winning season, won a conference championship, and/or won the National Championship. I'm sure there are numerous Crimson Tide fans who have unanswered questions for thier 2010 season as well as other National Title contender schools.

What I believe is that the coaches and players feed off of the heartbroken loss in the Big 12 Championship game and translated all of that onto the field for the Holiday game and distroyed Arizona to prove a point.....Nebraska is back and we're here to stay.

I believe that the players will still be feeding off of that dominating performance against Arizona into the upcoming season. I believe that we got a quick glimspe of what our Huskers will be like for the 2010 season from that Holiday Bowl game.

Do I think that we are National Champion contenders? No. Do I think that we can win the Big 12 Title this year? It's possible. Do I think that we will win the Big 12 North? Yes . Do I think that we can compete with any school in the nation? You bet your a$$ I do

GO BIG RED

We lost four games....but we also won ten games and were one second away from a BCS bowl bid. I guess you can focus on those four games if you want; I choose to focus on the ten wins, and I don't know about you, but I would say we received alot of answers to our list of questions we had last year.

We won the fourth quarter against Mizzou after Gabbert was hurt. 20-10 against Baylor. 10-3 over a depleted OU. 17-3 over K-state? 28-20 over CU? We had some close wins as well as close losses. I'm excited for the start of the season. but I'm realistic too. I'm looking for consistent effort, competent offense, and not turning the ball over eight times against anybody this year. How many people who are all "big 12 champs" and "national champs" were looking to get Watson and Cotton fired last fall?

The offense getting more than five 1st downs a game wouldn't hurt either.
