I think any President would have taken a hit when COVID sent the economy reeling, but doesn't Donald Trump's messaging go well beyond "not helpful?"

Trump viewed the coronavirus exclusively through the lens of how it would hurt his reelection bid. Precisely as he sowed doubt on the integrity of this election, he undermined the messaging of medical experts. Hosting and televising his own super-spreader events throughout the pandemic was also beyond "not helpful." This man doesn't see 350,000 dead Americans; he sees weak people who cost him the election. He's a sociopath. The same sociopath who ran in 2016. 

I mean hey, I'm grateful enough Republicans in power are now willing to condemn the President and push back against their own QAnon wing. Didn't want to go that way alone. I was honestly heartened the see Mitch McConnell and Linsdey Graham drop the hammer on Trump in unambiguous terms. But wow....it's very late in the game, and Trump is the same sociopath they've always enabled.

Now onto the point you consistently missed, though not surprised.  I agreed with his assessment on Trump and then said it’s a problem with most politicians.  I have an example of someone on the left moralizing for votes yet not living by those morals on a top issue for Democrats.

I thought about re-registering as an Independent years ago, but I mostly vote Republican anyways and wanted option to vote in primaries

That's why I stayed that way for a while.  But, I couldn't handle being associated with a party anymore.  I've realized it didn't really matter about the primaries in middle Nebraska.

When you actually break away from the party, it allows you to actually think more independently.  I know it sounds strange.  But...

And I agree that no politician will check every box. Politicians that become president generally check the core values that define a party. Climate change is not a core value of the left. It is an important (while relatively new) issue, but not a core value. Core values of the left would include, compassion, inclusiveness, and a care for the greater good. 

With Trump - the Republican party sacrificed all of their core values. Let's talk about some of these. Immigration- Trump hires cheap foreign labor at every one of his properties over giving American's jobs- Industry/ Job Creation- Trump personally manufactures all of his products in foreign countries. - Respecting entrepreneurs and small business- Trump has screwed more contractors out of rightfully owed dollars than perhaps any living person. - Sanctity of Marriage - 3rd wife, paying off pornstars, etc. Pro-life- well I don't want to speculate if/how many abortions he's paid for. - God fearing- yeah, how bout no. - There is no core conservative value except maybe having achieved personal wealth, that was filled by Trump. 

So while I agree that all politicians have their faults, none have been as lacking as Trump was in filling the core values for a party as Trump. This is why many republicans have said "I didn't leave my party- the party left me."

It was known within hours that there were agitators at the BLM protests. Umbrella man was called out almost immediately in Minnesota. There were people shunning ANTIFA in Pittsburgh as they vandalized a cop car. Those are two off the top of the head.

But just think, if enough people like you stayed in the party maybe you could affect the primaries?

I'm in central Nebraska.  No vote in a Nebraska primary matters because it's all decided before it ever gets to us.  It's just one of the most pathetic problems with our election process.  People in Nebraska have absolutely no say in who is the candidate.

This is a legitimate thought/question along those lines.  
 

How many hundreds of thousands or possibly into the millions of Republican leaning voters in CA or maybe some major metro areas don’t vote because of precisely the same thoughts.  That there isn’t enough of them to make a difference so they don’t vote.
