The Future of Husker Football

I feel we've got to give mad props to the staff and the players today. It was a loss and one that shouldn't have been, but if you'll indulge me, here were the positives I saw today.

We didn't quit, spotting them 21 pts. and then giving them the ball twice in amazing field position to start the 2nd half and we clawed our way into the lead.

We stuck with our game plan. After going down early no one panicked and we kept chipping away, which worked.

We made some half-time adjustments. I'm not even sure what they were, but after getting picked apart in the 1st half the defense came out and kept us in the game to start the 2nd half, while the offense did what they needed to.

The freshman played and delivered. Glenn and Lucky rotated in and out a lot in the 4th quarter. Glenn is a horse!!! Dillard got some time on the defense and did what he was asked to do. Brooks was actually in there at least once, but didn't do anything that i recall.

The kids are playing for each other and for their coaches. They gave everything they had today and when the crowd got on C. F.Thomas or whatever his name is for the three retard plays in the 2nd quarter his teammates patted him in the helmet and he didn't do too bad at all the rest of the game. There was never any quit in anyone and that alone is enough to respect the job the coaches and players have done.

We can hang with anyone left on our schedule. Spotting TT 21 pts. and clawing back to have the win stolen from us is reason to believe that we won't be out of our league til maybe the CC game, if then.

The stadium was an absolute madhouse. No one left and no one stopped cheering. Not that is was ever a concern, but i still feel its worth mentioning, the fan base is behind the team as much as ever.

Bottom line...a loss is a loss, and this one hurts for everyone, but I can't blame any player or any coach for this one. The breaks didn't go our way and we lost the turnover battle but I still feel they coached and played well enough to win. If you disagree, fine, but I personally feel you're fighting a losing battle. Great job today Huskers!!!

I disagree that these coaches are gonna make this program great. The O worked well at times, and the Dline put pressure on the QB, other than that, this was a very average game from a coaching standpoint.
Did you not notice that aster halftime Tech barely had over 100 yards of total offense. I believe Cosgrove did a pretty good job today. Whatever though dude nothing would ever make you happy. We could of won this game and you would of still pointed out the crap we did wrong.

Oh well life goes on.

Yah know, I've posted a few things against Callahan in the past, and I have been impatient with what I deemed to be a defunct offense, but you know, this whole thing has gotten out of hand. I am an ex-debater, and very rarely learn when to admit that I was WRONG about something, but I think I need to admit a few things:

I was WRONG about Callahan's attitude towards adapting to the team he was playing.

It looked a lot like that was the truth in early games. We would continue doing an offensive game plan that wasn't capable of making yards, nor touchdowns. Yet, after this game, and the adaptations that BC made in order to get back into this game, I'd say that his head was totally in this game.

I was WRONG about his inability to fire up our Husker team.

From past games we would play really well until halftime and look like s**t for the rest of the game. This was not the case in either of the two last games, especially not in this one. Tech was not prepared for the Cornhusker spirit when they stepped onto the field after half-time. Callahan must have made one hell of a halftime speech.

I was WRONG about the system being too complex for Taylor and the receivers to understand.

Whatever BC has been doing to teach them, they are getting it better and better with every successive week. This is the most positive aspect I have seen over the last two weeks.

I was WRONG about BC being too inept to understand where the flaws were in our team during games and fixing the problems in practice.

This was always a trumped up charge, but BC showed through the last several games that he knew where the weaknesses lay. Our team was able to score points in the redzone, which we haven't been good at for the past several years.

In the end, I was WRONG about a lot of things. I will have the grace to admit that. Our boys are looking more and more like Big XII North Champs every week, and by then, who knows? We might even have the chops to run with Texas. We first need to get there. The most positive aspect I saw in this last game was IMPROVEMENT!!! In the past several years it seemed our team got worse throughout the season, but this year, we are looking better and better against tougher and tougher opponents. I look forward to a more productive year, and I sincerely apologize for some of my previous comments.

I am a Huskers fan through and through, and all I want is for our team to perform to the best of their ability. I think we are rising up to that challenge with every week. GO HUSKERS!!!

Great post mcrooks. Acknowledging imperfections isnt an easy task, but you did it like a pro. ;) But Im sure you were more than okay with being proven wrong in this case. :) I shared many of the same concerns, but Im definitely starting to get more confidence in the coaches with each game as well.

Right on!! This season this team has become a TEAM.Once Bill started to get rid

of all the motions the offense has started to click.I'm starting to see improvements

in all the young players.Zakk was 21-35 today. The last two games he has a good

completion %.Bill is useing all the running backs and all the wide receivers. The

defensive is almost back to the level of the top BLACKSHIRTS that have roam the

field. This was a great game and just think if we won this game.

Don't do that "what if" thing to me BLS, I am still trying to overcome the "what ifs" myself. What if LeKevin downed the ball, what if we scored a touchdown on Ruud's fumble recovery. It doesn't do any good.

Mcrooks, great post. I agree with you wholeheartedly. It looks like this staff might be getting the hang of the college game after all.

Rock on dude! That was quite possibly one of the most exciting games I have ever seen! The team will get better, they will press on. The crowd was absolutely unreal today. I didn't sit in the second half. I gave myself a headache from yelling. The stadium was alive like I had never heard it before(well, maybe since last weekend). I could see the glass on the skyboxes flexing from all the noise. I could care less about the fact that NU can no longer steamroll opponents, it is a lot of fun to go to the game and know that your screaming like a moron for 4 hours may make the difference in the team getting a W or an L. That's cool.

Great point. If you take away the first 20 minutes and this game wouldn't be very close. I believe Tech got about 260 yards in this time period, ended up with barely 400 yards. The defense didn't start off great, but they played a great game.

As much as I agree with you Former, I think you're way off this time. The coaching staff did EVERYTHING I'd hoped they would. This team IMPRESSED the hell out of me...finally.

Turnovers killed us. End of story. We protect sh*t better, and NO ONE is talking bout us trying to run after an INT.

But the fact that we not only came back, but took a nice lead, says VOLUMES about where these guys can go.

I'll call you ALL out...WHO thought, "well, we're down 21-0, but we'll come back."

BS!!!! And I'll start with yours truly.

Thanks, Huskers, for playin your hearts out...do the same thing next week, and Baylor will be a punchline.

One thing I notice about living in the past, is that it is a lot easier to pick and choose what you want to remember. You can remember the TO championship years, FS years, the years before TO, or whenever.

It is a lot easier to point backwards and reminice, because it doesn't exist in the present day. For the fans who look backwards quite a bit.... I think many just have problems with dealing with reality. Looking backwards can be a result of not wanting to look ahead - being afraid. I hope that people can overcome the fear, because the Husker Nation needs to unite if we are going to support our team to a championship.

===========

I too am looking forward to the future of the Cornhuskers.

As I said in another post, I was thouroghly dissapointed with this lost. I was disgusted, I was pissed, I cussed out loud, I did everything. But that's because I'ma very, very competitive person, when it comes down to it. After my emotions setteling, I realized that... that if the Huskers were going to lose to TT, this was the best way it couldhappen, because NU made a big statement.

THis last game was huge for the team, the coaches, the fans, the nation, for the future, for recruiting. For everything. It showed that we have made progress, that we are capable of playing with the top teams. TT's pass attack is big talk all around the nation, and we hung in to the very end. I'm proud of my team, of our team.

As I had said in the other thread - this is the best loss I've ever been a part of. why? because everyone who witnessed the game knows we could have won. And for our program being where it is, unranked and rising, rebuilding... I think that everyone in the Husker Nation should hold their heads high.

If you hadn't fired Solich, you would have won today and last year.

You wouldn't be "rebuilding." Anybody knows that. Texas Tech beating

Nebraska? No way. But "change" is good! Good for the other teams!

And Neb worried about Baylor! Ha Ha He He. "Change" is good!

Wait til next year.

I just wanted to say that there should be NO COMPARISON between this year's team and last year's. I actually felt priviliged to be there, even in defeat, to watch a Husker team come back from 21 down to damn near win. I believe in this group of kids now more than ever. I am heartbroken, but strangely impressed and proud. Yes, We can play with anybody. The thing about last year was that bad things would happen and we couldn't rebound. I'm calling on all trueass Husker fans to get behind this group of guys for next week against Baylor. Former and Benard need not participate. GO BIG RED!

Nice, you take lessons from Benard?

This years team is night and day different than last year. This is going to hurt, but this team doesn't know the meaning of quit and I thought the coaches did a good job in putting the team in a position to win today. It just didn't happen.

It was a rockin game in the stadium,BTW. Oh and TBS was killing me with the retardedly long TV timeouts at times. man.

Oh! We would have? What else do your tarot cards say? Your meaningless and junior high-like post adds nothing to these boards. Either your a disgruntled Solich fan, who needs to get over it; or you are a fan of another team, who needs to think about what it means to be a good fan. Many morons don't understand, that if it takes Nebraska having a couple of down years for a team to compete with them, then that says something about that team, not Nebraska.
