The excuses I probably use most are lack of in state talent and college tuition costs. I help coach high school track out here in western NE, and I can tell you that for the most part we don't have the athletes we did 20-30 years ago in central to western NE. I don't see a Conneally rambling down the track anymore. I don't see a Scott Frost dominating the shot put and then dominating the hurdle events. The other thing that has really hurt is college costs. What little talent we do have in NE typically elects to go play where they're offered a scholly rather than walking on at NE. This started happening towards the end of TO's reign and when Solich took over. We had some great walk on players during the NC run like the Mackovichas, Schlesinger, Tomich, etc. It doesn't appear we're getting the quality of walk on players we did several years ago.
