The position coach of whichever unit is failing most miserably. One problem with getting rid of Barney is who will be the new fanbase whipping boy?
I'm gonna go with whoever is coaching the linebackers. Him or Martinez. One problem with getting rid of Barney is who will be the new fanbase whipping boy?
How do you know this? With Cotton one mistake and your pulled now its time to pull him. The reason why kids don't like him is they are to afraid to go out and play fearing a mistake and being pulled.
I had a decent response going in the other thread before I realized it was locked, but here's basically what I said - as far as characteristics are concerned, it really comes down to knowledge of the game, how well you relay the knowledge, and your motivational skills. Some people are simply better than others.I started another topic similar to this because I didn't see this one-sorry for the repeat-Knap you can take my original one off. Here is what I wrote:
Ok, lots of talk about the ineffectiveness of our current O-Line coach, but what would you consider the characteristics of an effective O-Line coach? Also, if our current O-Line coach gets the sack after this year, who would you consider the top choice to take his place? Would that person also get to choose who his assistants would be?
I don't think our O-Line has been effective for awhile. I know that our team has looked good at times but against lesser opponents. The other thing that bothers me is this: If an O-Line is effective that means that we should be able to have less 3 and out plays-right? Or is that all on the quarterback? My thinking is that if your O-Line is effective then you should be able to move the ball up the field more effectively.
Thanks!
Wisconsin, okay I see that. But Iowa? What are you, on dope? Our o-line play has been pretty sad to watch since Tenopir was forced out. Neither Cotton or Wagner have been able to really develop any of these guys. I just get the feeling if we had the O-line coach from Wisc or Iowa our line would be a force. This is either going to make this season completely painful to watch, or it's going to force some of these guys to step up to the next level...
Iowa has had better lines then we have over the last 5-6 years. They have had 13 olinemen drafted since 2003 and 2 first rounders in back to back years (2010 and 2011)Wisconsin, okay I see that. He's actually the son of Bo's aquarium guy...How do you know this? With Cotton one mistake and your pulled now its time to pull him. The reason why kids don't like him is they are to afraid to go out and play fearing a mistake and being pulled.

There's no way to put it delicately: Cotton gets hammered by legions of Internet illuminati.
"I haven't looked, but I can only imagine," he said Monday. "But I also know it's pretty easy to make comments when you're anonymous. And nobody is really going to notice but us (coaches and players) what goes on.
"People can speculate. …"
Brian Moore cleared up some speculation regarding his son Tyler's departure from the program. The elder Moore said his son wasn't enjoying football. However, he said, Tyler adores Bo Pelini. Loves Tim Beck. Still favors the color red.
Cotton's name was conspicuous by its absence.
You might be on to something...Is it just me or do you think he got the idea of his story from all of us?
The part in bold likely refers to what happened with Tyler Moore last season. I think there was an incident with a false start in the Wisconsin game - an issue which has plagued the OL well beyond Moore, and has been a big problem notably since Cotton took over - and Moore saw his playing time drop off since then. How do you know this? With Cotton one mistake and your pulled now its time to pull him. If the bolded part were even remotely true then Cotton would have to pull our entire offensive line. As individuals and as a unit, they make mistakes all the time. Although I'm critical of Cotton, few have stopped to think that maybe this kid has an attitude problem. Maybe there were things we weren't seeing on film or in the meeting room that caused Cotton to pull Moore. This is pure speculation on my part, of course, but I doubt anyone here really knows for sure. Cotton has a knack for pulling and rotating linemen, no doubt about that, but I seriously doubt he's a "one mistake and you're pulled" kind of guy. I think decked is exaggerating with that statement but even so, that entire post is extremely bold and very presumptuous given he knows as much as we do, which isn't a lot.The part in bold likely refers to what happened with Tyler Moore last season. Decked may also be getting at inconsistency in application of that, something da skers expanded on at one point recently, but I'll try to avoid embarrassing myself by attempting to recollect exactly what he said.
Yeah, he def read the entire Tyler Moore thread. He had a few laughs, a few tears and decided that his journalism career needs a lift only that thread could give it. But I ahve always imagined Steve was a poster on HB, but who would it be?Sipple has written a piece about the rise in Cotton scrutiny over the last few days.

Cotton's problems can go away if his line has a successful season. Until then, I think most of the criticisms directed his way are fair.
