The BET awards ARE the f'ing diversity.

Spike Lee and Jada are complaining about the lack of diversity amongst nominations for black actors. So they want more nominations for black people for the Oscars but yet the BET awards only nominate black actors and music performers.
How is that any different from what they are complaining about for the Oscars? Wheres the double standard?

What black actor(s) should've been nominated for an award(s)?

So next year if a black person gets nominated, will it be because they deserved it or because of this stunt?

Again. BET and their awards show were created because of the fact blacks were getting little attention and recognition in what would be termed mainstream. That's not a double standard. That is not racist. That's being pragmatic.
If the movie and TV industry had been more diverse and welcoming of people of color, maybe BET and their awards are never created.

And as far as what black actors should have been nominated will never be truly known because we don't know how a black actor would have done in a role that was given to a white person and chosen by an all white panel for an award.

If the Oscars were created and advertised as PURPOSEFULLY being for whites only, a white exclusive event and awards ceremony, then you could make the comparison between the two, but then black actors/actresses wouldn't be boycotting either.

If white people made up a whites only award ceremony, people would lose their sh#t.

Like I said, I thought his kid was the one being the one waving the racist flag. Judging off the kids tweets, he falls far from the tree.

His wife I don't know much about ither than she is a good actress in the movies I've seen her in.

The Oscars are supposed to be a prestigious awards ceremony recognizing the very best in film regardless of race/ethnicity/religion/etc. In other words, the Oscars are supposed to be all-encompassing.

POC (people of color) and minorities have felt for a long time that the Oscars are not what they are advertised as, namely that they under represent or fail to represent minorities, and with probable good reason, as the Oscars are essentially founded, run, and voted on by almost all white people, and almost all white males specifically.

As a reaction to feeling slighted, things like the BET awards were created to specifically honor blacks in entertainment, because they felt that they were not being recognized fairly in the mainstream.

There is no double standard. It's like the college football hall of fame and the Nebraska football hall of fame. Our school created it's own hall of fame specifically to honor players that played here that wouldn't be recognized by the organizing body that recognizes the very best in all of college football.

...the fact they outright are claiming that the voters and the award show are racist towards black people. I could honestly give two sh#ts less about an award show and who was or wasn't nominated and what their skin color is. Maybe they have a real gripe, or maybe it's just yet another Spike Lee hate fueled anti white campaign. If it was someone besides him that started this little crusade, I might take it a little more seriously.

Oh, so the Nebraska Hall of Fame excludes white people (or any specified race or color) from contention?

I guess if a person wants to create the appearance of racism they can. It's a little tougher to do when you actually believe all persons are equal. When you side with Spike Lee, that's saying something.

Based on the rationale I've seen in this thread for the BET awards not being racist, it is apparent that the White NFL and White NBA need to be created to provide proper diversity. Wonder how that would go over? Would Spike Lee embrace that?
