Swinney is one of the nations best recruiters and a big reason why they had such good classes. He got the interim job over a couple of guys who previously had head coaching experience because of that.

You bring good reason to discussion.  MR may or may not be that guy,  What we know is he's making changes/improvements as needed, works tirelessly, and is completely dedicated to seeing this program improve to conference championship level.  Staying the current course is our quickest path to getting over the hump.   But like you say it's a gamble.  Changing course sets us back another 3 or 4 years.

Im curious as to what improvements you're seeing?  To me, it appears we're actually regressing. 

And a change, if it's the correct one, doesn't have to set you back three or four years. Michigan and Penn St make that pretty evident right now. 

 
I think if he pulls out 8 wins after this lousy start and the players look like they have a clue about what they're doing, then I'd say "see you next year coach".

Now if they found some super staff to take over, it might be hard for the admin to not go another direction and I'd support that staff as well.

I heard Carriker and Frazier.  Frazier had tweeted that this was the worse half of NU football he's ever witnessed. We cannot afford 2 more years of this. This isn't what NU fans have invested in - years of loyalty, fund raising, sellout crowds, emotions were not invested in this team only to get paid back with such poor performance and coaching. We have wonderful facilities and resources but a clunker in the garage. This travesty goes to the top - beyond the AD to the top of the university system who allowed this to happen - to allow the Nebraska culture and our traditions to be trampled underfoot. Apathy isn't far behind. Imagine Memorial stadium with only 50-60k people in it. :o It happened at OU in the 1990s - it will happen here if the regents and other leaders don't wake up. When the money cow dries up, then everyone will be hurting and not just the football program.  

Unfortunately, at this point, it is a stretch to think that games against Ill and Rutgers are guaranteed wins. :facepalm:   I had previously posted that there was no way NIU would beat us.  All bets are off now and no more :koolaid2: .   I see other programs passing us up with better coaching.    :bang We are a safety and a bobbled dropped pass by ASU from being 0-3. Let that sink in.

Clemson was recruiting at a high level before Swinney.

He didn't win right away with top 15 talent, and he didn't improve recruiting right away either.  In fact there was a very big drop off in recruiting his first couple years as you can see above.  He learned on the job, improved on the field and in recruiting and with time was able to get things headed in the right direction.  The results of his first 3 years were not indicative of where he'd take the program eventually.

He was on staff at Clemson since 2003.

Yep, Dabo was a young guy, on his first HC job, but known as one of the best recruiters in the country. He needed time to learn how to be the guy in charge.  (we hoped MR already knew how).  Dabo also has an eye for talent and brought in players who may not have been 4 and 5 star but developed into top tier players.  Like we saw in Austin, ratings don't tell the full story.  Of course now he brings in players on par with Saban.

The first season he was the interim coach. His first seasons as actual HC were:

He fired Kevin Steele after the Orange Bowl debacle and hired Venables.....ie guru

Then :

This included losing his OC, Chad Morris, to SMU....His first 3 years:

Dabo built a program quickly and has kept it constant for some years...He took over for Tommy Bowden who had records "comparable" to Bo, in a conference not as tough as the Big XII IMO.......Riley inherited a better "program" than Dabo, but Dabo instilled his culture, buy in and the kids LOVE home (so do the fans)...

Dabo was also the lead recruiter of 11 of those kids from the 2008 class and was recognized as one of the top recruiters in the nation....

What would happen, both in reality and in Huskerboard-dom, if the game against NIU was a bit flukish, especially on offense.  Say the D continues to improve significantly and the O recovers from the train wreck that was yesterday.  Those things happen, and we wind up 8 - 4.  What if, for the rest of the season, we are that mediocre team that gets the breaks on "any given Saturday"? Where does that leave public opinion on the notion of who should stay or go, and when those things should happen.

Edit:  I have stopped drinking koolaid, and think the odds of this happening are minimal, but it does make for a good question.

We would probably have to evaluate where Northern Illinois is at before making that decision.
