To Dennard, or not to Dennard....

oh and Dennard is hurt, much worse than Bo is revealing.....at least he is consistent.
If I were a betting man, I'd guess we'll see him some this week and assuming the leg isn't bad on Sunday he starts next week.
I don't see it happening. Dennard's injury is supposed to take around four to six weeks to heal, and it will be one month tomorrow since he got injured. The necessity to bring Dennard out this weekend just isn't there, and not for Wyoming either.

I say keep him under wraps, get him to 100%, and then bring him out against our toughest opponent this year - Wisconsin. There's no need to bring him along yet. Even if we were to lose against Washington, it won't be because Dennard isn't out there, because we have too much else on the team for that to be the only reason for losing.
I disagree. You gotta get him some game reps and get his conditioning up so he can actually play the whole game at Wisconsin. He needs at least a few quarters to knock the rust off and get comfortable with the new cast of characters in the defensive backfield.

Did you see what happened with Chris Johnson (Titans RB)? He was so out of game shape from holding out over the off-season that he was ineffective carrying the rock last weekend.

I'd would rather take Dennard recovering at his own pace and being put out there when he is ready, rather than rushing him out there only to get re-injured and be lost for a longer period when conference play matters.

The educated guessers are saying it sounds like Mitchell might start in the secondary and a chance for Smith or Green at the nickel. Sounds like the guys up front are set and they like the corrections this week. Fish should have a chance a big week.
Evidently Mitchell said he'd be starting on his blog, same as Bell did.

The whole defense looked like it needed to toughen up last week. It's been awhile since I can remember our D getting opened up at every level like that.
2006? Cosgrove? chuckleshuffle
You mean '07.

In '06 we still had Carriker, Moore, Bradley and those boys. Still makes me angry thinking back to the B12 title game that year and the defensive effort we gave that night only to have our offense stink up the place. That was one night Zac Taylor made me want to punch him repeatedly in the face.

Bring back Dennard slowly, we need him full strength in conferance play. Little off topic, but we may be seeing the first signs of how much Marvin Sanders will be missed.

I might be a little early to say Sanders will be missed. Your seeing two young corners out on the filed the last two weeks getting their feet wet.

Conditioning can be done off the field - you don't need games to get you conditioned. The game reps are important, yes, but at what cost? My point is that he's on the downward slope of the recover process now. At the very least, he should see minimal time this week and then peppered time the next week, before starting at Wisconsin.

No, but the thought is in the back of more than one fan's mind. And we've started a number of kids for the first time in the secondary and didn't nearly as bad results as we did against Fresno State when Marvin was around. Like another poster said, last game where I remember the secondary was torched was OSU '07, and only for one half, and not 3.5 quarters of a game.

Then again, watching the game again, I'm thinking that WR/QB combo may be the third best one we see all year, short of Wisconsin and Michigan State.

Derek Carr is a legit D-1 QB who had offers from USC and UCLA out of HS. The corners we have been playing this year have been in man coverage all year, basically on their own islands. Once we play better teams, and Dennard does come back we will see more matchup zone.

I see your point, but everyone and their mother will tell you that you can't simulate game conditions in practice (or off the field as you stated). They're two totally different beasts.

to be honest we don't really know how far he has come with the injury...any time you rush back, it can ruin a whole season, let him get healed,no matter how long it takes....i got tired of watching a crippled TM last season, no need to go down that road again.
