To Dennard, or not to Dennard....

Let me tell you, it was short and sweet. Well, maybe not sweet. I timed Bo Pelini's Thursday post-practice interview at 1 minute, 56 seconds. Not a lot of words said, but a few interesting ones regarding injuries.
Pelini said Alfonzo Dennard is "questionable" for Saturday's game, which doesn't reveal much but also beats the heck out of the word doubtful.

What's probably more encouraging to Husker fans: The senior cornerback "did a little work out there," according to Pelini.

Pelini is pissed....big time. you can just tell, no doubt about it. i would say the whole D is in the doghouse.

This Is not sounding good. Takes the goodness of bell starting and bring it down a few notches.

Yep. Corners were being taught to not be "pussies" all week in practice. Lots of extra time after practice working on bump and run and jamming people at the line.

I was wondering when the physical play of our secondary was going to come back.

Agreed. I'd rather maul guys at the LOS and draw a couple PI calls a game, then sit back and give them underneath routes all day.

If I were a betting man, I'd guess we'll see him some this week and assuming the leg isn't bad on Sunday he starts next week.
Awesome! Just in time for the big road game at Wyoming. ^_^
I just know two weeks ago the plan (if everything went well) was to have him play at least one full game before Wisc. I think they had probably hoped it would be this game and then rest him next week with playing a quarter or two. (That was best case). I don't think we're on the best case, but instead are doing the lets test it theory. Sometimes with an injury you have try it out and see the response, then let it have a healing period and you can get back at it. Like anything else he's got good days and bad. I think some of his "burst" has been diminished, but he's physical enough at the line that he should be able to slow guys down enough to stay with him. If someone gets behind him or fakes him out I think he's going to need some help from the safeties because his change of direction and the ensuing acceleration isn't back. I don't know the percentage but could guess maybe 80-85%. I think he's probably still better not healthy than our other guys just because he's so damn smart at whats happening and in the film room. But it would be ideal to have him 100% (or close) in conference play since that's so much more important.

I'm sure they'll decided Saturday morning based on how he can perform after yesterday's practice. To say he ran around some would be an understatement. I was told they tested the leg out pretty damn hard. Some was good, some was bad. How it is today will tell them a lot more.

If we had him for Saturday, we win going away. But, I just don't know if I would risk it on the chance of a setback.

There's still issues with the corners jamming like Bo wants. They're . . .well. . not as good as they should be. They're young and when they're getting beat they get sloppy and actually end up either drawing a call, or being out of position and vulnerable to big plays. Of course.. . its not like we haven't been burned by big plays. Don't know 100% but someone said Mitchel worked out at nickle for this week too. Bo is doing his usual thing where he starts to make coaches play who he thinks should play. This always happened to Sanders about game 4 with the backs and also the LBs. Unfortunately we don't have the LB's we need.
