This is truly what concerns me. I'd throw in just depth period. We are in year 3 and do we truly have depth anywhere across all 3 phases? I'd say receiver is probably our deepest and they've gotten some quality reps, but elsewhere it just seems almost every year (for a while) we are "rebuilding" each season. I beat the horse of the RB room, but 2 games left and we have EJ, EJ, EJ and some other other guys....UCLA put 42 on Penn State. NW and NU held UCLA to their lowest points this year.
So which PSU D shows up?
Rhule has more wins at NU to date in Y3 with 3 more games to play than Frosty in 5 years. So ugly but better so far.
I miss our D linemen that freed up other players. I think they would have gotten enough push and help contain the UCLA QB. Or at least sack him a couple times instead of not tackle him. A couple of those 3rd and longs beings stops and this game gets out of UCLA's reach. But they scored with long enough drives they ran themselves out of time.
A deeper OL and DL moves this team up a couple notches. OL played a decent game today. No TFL and sacks. Running was downhill. Last drive killed the clock. Won another one score game.
I really think this is what Rhule was saying with the $30-40 million NIL for roster management. Not just to "get" guys, but for NU (IMHO) more importantly to keep guys. Yes it was one game, yes it was UCLA (and yes we are just Nebraska), but I think we'd be foolish to not pay to keep TJ. Raiola is gone in the 27 draft. I think last year was the last since Riley IIRC, when a QB went through a whole season. I am extremely biased as TJ is mobile, but he seemed to have "it". Live arm, he made a read and zipped it in. Didn't appear to throw "lazy" or with no urgency as has been discussed here. Not saying if Raiola came back next week he wouldn't/shouldn't be the starter, but 3 more games for TJ and maybe there's a legit competition next year. Dude beats Iowa.......
