USC...Blackshirts...

Oh geez. Kinda sad. The USC defense isn't anything I'd write home about.

Be nice guys. This USC fan apparently is not here to flame anyone. Thanks for clearing up the Blackshirt issue. Welcome to our board.

I don't think anyone is trying to demean their talent level. They have a great team, and let's be honest. Losing the MNC game is just about as good as winning in recruiting capital.

Funny that their defense is better than the real "blackshirts" defense. Man it feels good to be a USC fan. :horns2
how so? according to the numbers last year our defenses were pretty close to being even...with Nebraska having the slight edge. Not bad for a team that wasn't ranked among the top in the nation.

And this year we'll be even better at defense.

That's funny, that's what my future father-in-law calls them.

Personally, I have a lot of respect for the run they have had from 02-05. NU had a very similar run in 93-97 (59-3). I think USC has a distinct advantage because they have a prestigious university in a nice climate with a large population. They are set up for a long run because of their recruiting base.

LA sports fans are bandwagoners. The Dodgers and Lakers are the only teams that draw fans consistently. The Clippers finally started to draw fans when they turned around, the Angels started to draw fans when they went to the world series and when Art Moreno took over. USC has a ton of fans now, 8 years ago, you could hear echos in the Colliseum because it was so empty. And all the celebs that show up and the media attention that has followed is just ridiculous. I'd hope you can understand that fans of a team that has had a run that was just as good or better recently gets a little annoyed about hearing about a Onepeat team that gets 20 times the attention that the Huskers got in the 90s. For crying out loud, all the ESPN dingleberries picked the 05 USC team, that didn't even win the National title, would beat the 95 Huskers, widely regarded as the most dominant team EVER. Simply ridiculous.

:yeah

I totally agree. I grew up in a USC house and watching what the "fans" and alums did when the team was at a given point was hysterical. 1988, they were 10-0 and outstanding and #1 in the hearts of Californians.....until ND beat them (which they did ALOT). 1994, SI picked them to win it all, everyone broke out the Keyshawn Johnson shirts.....until they lost to ND but made up for by thrashing a overrated Northwestern in the Rose Bowl

Last year was the worst. Maybe if Pete Carroll had spent a little more time studying game film and worrying about where his star players were living and who they were paying rent to and a little less time planning pranks and throwing dummies off buildings (BTW I really wonder how fast all the bloviates at ESPN would have called for Callahan's head if he chucked a Cory Ross doll off Oldfather Hall), they might not have been scared by Notre Dame, Fresno St, or maybe even lost to Texas.

In all fairness, they are a proud program with A TON swept under the rug, just like any other big program

SC is a proud program. Pete Carrol is a very good coach. They will give us all we can handle I am sure.

I think they are under a much closer micro scope than most programs. Things that get reported at SC may not ever hit the radar at other programs. Jokes are jokes, and if done at Nebraska or Michigan most likely would not have been heard of.

We have been fortunate, we have not been through the ups and downs that most programs have. We had a short time of being less than we expect. There were concerns a few years ago of the sell out string ending. Not likely but thoughts that it could happen with another bad year. We had at one time 50% that were against the what was going on. So things do change. If we had gone 10 years losing on a regular basis, I doubt our fan base would have reacted any differently.

But currently they are the best program in college football for the last 4 years. They are very close to doing what we did in the 90's. These two programs are the only two to have won back to back championships. So there is no reason to disrespect them or for them to disrespect us.

I have a lot of SC friends and each and everyone of them expect SC to win this game. I would not expect any different. They are the power now, we are on the rise. There is no reason for them not to expect a win. This is what makes college football so great.

Sorry, my post was a carry over from another thread where daniel said that their coaching was "way better" than ours. I dont even have to go through the lists of accomplishments our coaching staff has achieved in their life time to defend our coaches. I respect the USC coaching staff. They have obviously done a great job, but than again, so has ours. We just have alot less to work with, though thats getting better. I know that Callahan was a far better and accomplished nfl coach, and that he is also known as one of the greatest recruiters in the college game of all time. We are starting to see flashes of his ability as a game coach in college football, and I hope that the USC is unlucky enough to see the lightning bolt hitting their stadium when we come to town.

Team of the 90s = Huskers

Team of the 00s = USC

now lets have some damn respect for each other. it will be a tough game. we will triumph in the end! i always believe in my Huskers baby!

I know that Callahan was a far better and accomplished nfl coach,
Not that pete carroll was a great nfl coach, but I wouldn't say that bc was "far better and accomplished."

One super bowl, yes, but he only had 2 years before he was fired. His 4 year record as a head coach is so-so. He still has much to prove.
