We can't beat OU

I hate to say this, but next weeks game may be over before it starts. This is all on the offensive coaches, they need an overhall. You may disagree, "don't give up you say." I will never abandon this team, just being realistic. What do you all think?
The Sooners will wish they never came here. Nebraska will destroy them. Should be over by the 1st quarter...

Can NU beat OU tomorrow night? Without question. Will they? It's entirely up to NU.

I hope to hell they do.
Vince, I COMPLETELY agree with you, finally!!! :corndance :corndance chuckleshuffle chuckleshuffle :cheers chuckleshuffle chuckleshuffle :yeah :yeah :cheers :yeah :yeah :hellloooo :hellloooo :ahhhhhhhh :hellloooo :hellloooo :corndance :corndance

No offense....but it's been my message and intent with just about every post over the last couple of days.
I think we've only really disagreed about that whole pesky rivalry issue. I think it is true that whether we win this game or not is entirely up to us. If we play to our top level on defense and if our offense clicks, puts some points on the board, and wins ball possession have a good chance to win. It is feasible.

Especially my rivalry posts had the same message/ intent as the posts in this thread.

I agree with your posts.....and not just those in this thread :cheers

Beat OU!!!!!!

i think its funny how everyone thinks our D is just so strong and top 10 caliber. The only impressive defensive performance of the season was via the game against TTech. Thats it folks. Dont get me wrong, our front four can hang with any of them in the nation, but after that, i dont think we are all that good. Hopefully someone eggs Pelini's house or something again so we can get some pissed off playcalling on D. When was the last time we had some good blitzing schemes as of late? thats the way to success in these games. The O will suprise us as teams tend to step up in big games once or twice or the other D has a mental laps in these games. 28 points is the magical number to win if our D is the D everyone thinks it is.
I think it's funny that you doubt this is a very strong top 10 defense in the country when two thirds of the way through the season they are #4 in the nation. Numbers don't lie... or do they. True points scored on the D in the big 12... Mizzou 10, TT 24, Ia St. 6, Baylor 3 which is a total of 19 points less than they get blamed for on the stats sheet. and like in the deed said, why blitz when you can get consistent pressure with the D-line?

Secondly, if 28 points is what it takes to win, then Nebraska has about a 5% chance of winning, seeing as to how we haven't scored 28 on anyone other than the sunbelt.
look at the teams we have played and then tell me that our statistics compare to the level of teams in the SEC. We know that we can score and stop the SUNBELT conference that we might as well join, but the VTECH game looks just average now and the only good team we have played is? Fill the rest in smart guy cause im not sure who our D has stopped.

Hi guys, first post here and where better to do it than my boring hotel room in Lincoln.

I've only been to Lincoln once before, around the same time of year actually, though it was far colder then.

(It's also much nicer of a trip on a chartered flight rather than driving, that is one boooooooring drive)

Anywho, from what I've seen so far on your board here, our states have very conflicting views on the outcome of this game. I wish one of you could get ahold of todays edition our major newspaper, The Oklahoman. 1/3rd of the sports section was dedicated to praise and admiration for your team and moreso, your fans. My first ever OU football game at the tender age of eight years old was against the big N, and while we got beat fairly badly (or very badly), your fans were the most gracious I've ever encountered. Here in Oklahoma we may have more overall respect for Nebraska than any other team in the country year in and year out.

Enough of that, getting to the point..

This game will be incredibly close, far closer than some of you nay-sayers believe. All the stats that point one way or another will not mean a thing once this bad-boy kicks off. I firmly believe both defenses will play at a big time level, and this is going to be the utter definition of a nail-biter. Here is what I consider to be the deciding factor, and in it, NU has the very slight edge.

Close games.

OU has not won a close game this year, everyone hears the "3 losses by a total of 5 points" stat, but I would say if anything that shows a glaring weakness in the team, not something to brag about. Now mind you, I understand NU has lost some close ones this year, but they've won some as well. OU has not. The come back against Mizzou was mind blowing, it shows the resolve of coaching staff and players whether you believe it or not.

OK OK, you guys rock, we sooners love you for the most part, some of the best games in OU history have been against NU, blah blah blah.

My prediction, and only due to unwavering OU fandom:

OU 24 NU 17

(if turnovers get messy on both ends then refer to the second)

OU 35 NU 31

I hope Lincoln Memorial is nice! Bye!

To those of you NEBRASKA fans who gave the Big Red no chance in this game. Did you climb out of your lofty armchairs and back onto the wagon today?? Are you still drabbling on about giving your team a chance being Kool aide? To those of you who gave up on this team before the game started and tried to suger coat it like you weren't. I hope that win was a little less sweeter for you.

Nope, the victory was just as sweet as for everyone else...

I ask you one question.

Did Iowa State beat us? Or did we beat ourselves?

Same can be said about last night.

We played a far better defensive game than anyone imagined we could. I have been a bandwagon fan now for over 50 some years, and this was one of the best defensive performances I have ever seen.

Oklahoma playing their Freshman QB most likely did the deed, but unlike us they had no choice. The last play summed up their game. He was in over his head and did not have an answer.

We played a great defensive game, but it was no more of win than Iowa State was over us. Scoreboard, no qustion and I will take it, but it was a gift.

I could have easily been a rout, it wasn't and I am happy about it.

Total admiration for the defense, every single one of them, and to Bo and Carl for their great game plan. But beating that level of a team without any offense does not happen often. Count our blessings.

I sure am tired of getting my dress caught in the spokes of this damed wagon. NOT

Erm, while I agree OU didn't do themselves any favors, comparing our game against them to ISU's game against us is a little much.

Very similar offensively.

They moved the ball quite regularly, had 5 turnovers lost I think.

Iowa state did move the ball better than we did.

One yard rushing other than Helu and 63 were on one play. We did very little to win this game, we won due to a turn over, just like Iowa State.

We gave one away, one was given to us. We did our part to help them give it to us no question, but very similar.

Well, I was the one to start this thread and had serious concerns about us beating OU. Yet, if you have been on this board since last night, most of us who had doubts were more than happy to eat crow. I have been a huge fan for 40yrs and just beause I have concerns DOES NOT mean I have become less of a fan. Facts are facts, regardless, I was rooting like a madman last night before the game started and loved every minute of it.

Doubting a win makes you "less" of a fan I guess. Haha okay. I'm sure people like Husker Moon call all the upsets and get it all right. Let him be happy that he can close his eyes, shoot his gun, and hit the target once in awhile.

I had doubts about our ability to beat OU, just like every expert in Vegas and Lincoln and Oklahoma. Turns out I was wrong. Oh no. I'm happy to be so, but don't call us less fans because we had legitimate concerns about an offense that has struggled - and DID struggle last night - for the latter half of the season.
