What Did We Learn - Bowl Edition

I learned how bad college football has gotten. What a boring Husker game and I didn’t even care they lost. Both teams had lots of missing pieces and are currently overshadowed at this time of year by transfer portal / coaching changes / NIL / NFL draft. The NFL has contracts and rules whereas college football is a chaotic field of individuals scrambling to do what’s best for their pocket books.

Contracts are an absolute must next, 2-3 years. It's the only way this madness gets any better.

We did miss EJ. EJ might have been the heart and soul of this team this season. I will enjoy not having to discuss Dylan next season because he might go down in my book as one of the most overrated players to every suit up here. I hate to say that based on what we saw here because if he had a better line in front and maybe better receivers across the board, he really might have been worth the hoopla.

He wasn't overrated (DR) bc regardless of what you think of him no way are we getting to 7 wins without him. Yes EJ played a huge part of those 7 wins but so did Dylan. No way do we get to 7 with with TJ and EJ this year bc TJ has a long way to go to be the full time starter permanently.

Easy prediction: This offseason on this forum will overwhelmimgly consist of fear and loathing about the offense while almost entirely neglecting the fact that our defense was the biggest problem this season.

Ehh. We've got the #54 scoring offense and the #51 scoring defense. There's plenty of mediocrity on both sides of the ball.

I learned that Rhule is another failed experiment and the sooner it ends the better. The university needs to stop throwing money on unproven coaches and then giving them unearned extensions. Bring a young proven winner from FCS and give them a chance. To be honest, even if we played North Texas, they would have embarrassed us. This is how bad Rhule has been. If it weren’t for a puff schedule and EJ, we would not have made a bowl. What are the benefits of going to a bowl if Rhule can’t use the extra practices to develop players.

We probably would have gotten at least 8 wins if Raiola wasn't injured. If he wasn't here at all this year we would have got maybe 4 at best, even with EJ.

Didn’t read any replies on this thread so forgive me if I’m wrong or repeating anything anyone else has said.

We got completely out-coached on defense v their offense around the 9min mark of the 2nd qtr until the end of the game.
They hit their TE and check downs all over the field, 2nd option, and intermediate receiverrs against us at will…Ran it against us when they needed/wanted to and went long to show off.
Their players flexed on us all day. And we had a “llimp-off-line” of dudes who got hurt, had a TV timeout for, left the game, or left on TV laying around on the field. We are a…sad to say, SOFT ASSED pu&&y program.
Which leads me to:
we are not a decent/mid B1G team. We are the team that other programs play against and expect to win against us. Maybe make a bowl and be on tv.

When I watch mid/decent bowl games and all the way up to CFP games, I realize there is a STRIKING difference between what we have and what 14-21 ranked teams have:
1: scheme/alignment (we are so out leveraged)
2. players
3. coaching
4. tenacity
5. talent
6. straight up mfer’ing ballers
7. A giant stick up Nebraska’s a$$.

Fix 7 and the rest will follow. Gosh darn we are not a good team and we haven’t been since since Suh was here, let’s be honest.

Until we get a coach/ leader who the players respect as man, and abides by that high and greatest of standards….we will never be “back.”

Not Sad to say, but I’m speaking the truth.

Nebraska has a tough, hard nosed, disciplined, loyal, and methodical/ natural way of life. But the football team has dropped that identity for what l?

If we could get a guy in here to teach a power running based offense with multiple formations that uses traps and counters to keep the defense honest while employing a play action pass game mixed with quick reads and roll-outs…
If we hit the other team real hard and they stop us so be it.
If they try and hit us…we should win that fight, most times.
If they defeat us, good for them.

I’d rather be tough AF and lose than be a WTH are we.

Being tough AF will win us more games than following and new trend

I also leaned I need a side team.

Did you see coach Cristobal after the game? Now that dude has some passion. Maybe I’m a Nebraska Husker-Cane now?

I would say they were equally bad. Averaging 18 points per game isn’t lightning up the score clock. Red zone offense was bad and imagine the production without EJ. Rhule, our backwards cap wearing coach, has a lot of holes to plug.
