What did we learn?- Michigan State

OL play needs to improve drastically. Of course I say this every year (Donnie?)

Unless we can start to buy massive DT's, we really need to think about ditching the 3-3-5. I know we bring guys on the line and showed multiple fronts, but our base is still 3 and w/out 2 guys who demand double teams it won't work.

Was excited to see our RB#2. Did I miss it? Same with our tackles. Prichett had just the one penalty. But the entire OL was just ugly. I'd like to see what Dylan would look like behind a much better OL.

DR really is slow. Like really lead footed slow. I think he also processes things a little slower than needed with no OL.

Spread the ball around a lot.

Ekler deserves coach of the year, pay raise, whatever he wants.

The ST guys on punt returns owe Barney dinner for costing him 2 TD's in 2 different games on his returns. Dude is a baller.

D with 2 INT's was great. But O needs to capitalize on those.

Dana isn't a run 1st guy.

Amazed at lack of any attempt at doing anything offensively against the wind. Guess it just surprised them. Imagine if we could actually predict it.

We won. 2 more wins to bowl eligible. No idea where they come from. No idea which NU will show up.

Guys didn't quit. Slowly and painfully learning to win.

Reinforced my commitment to NEVER believe the off season hype train which seems to grow louder and louder every year. According to the usual suspects our OL had finally arrived and was near the elite B1G teams, with lots of depth to boot. They'd lead us to greatness.

Hmm, haven't seen it in first 5 games. 110 yards rushing combined in the first 2 B1G ain't going to cut it. Nor is allowing 12 sacks. Combined with a QB that looks like he's running through wet concrete, B1G teams are going to be licking their chops to play us.

I think if everyone can re-watch the game without the stress, everyone will see some improvement. Some is due to a weaker opponent but some is genuine improvement. Our oline play was better. DR did cause some of the sacks by holding the ball way too long. Oline also run blocked better. They still weren't good, but they improved. Defensively, they're were some great adjustments in run defense. Nowhere near perfect but showed progress. DR had his worst game if the year but being consistent as a sophomore is difficult. Finding a way to win on an off day is great imo. I still see an 8 or 9 win team but we aren't a playoff team. Fans should do their best to enjoy the season for what it is... our best in a long time.

In the Michigan game the OL was the cause of the sacks. Seemed like today Dylan was holding onto the ball way too long. He was waiting for guys to get OPEN when they were open.
I was at the game. The OL gave plenty of time on several of the sacks. DR has no internal clock, won't scramble, and will not throw the ball away and move on.

He couldn't find several open recievers for lack of looking even when he had no significant pressure.

The section I was in was starting to boo him after not seeing a wide open reciever in the back of the endzone and tossing it to the TE for a loss.

That's the same as I saw.

Great fans

I have learned that Mekhi Nelson doesn't get to play much even though he has 4 carries for 30 yards the last 2 games. He is 7.5 yeards a carry. Why does he not get more carries?

I guess I don't really consider it holding onto the ball way too long when the defense is in his lap right away. If he had a clean pocket to stand in and he was still holding the ball 5 seconds later I would agree. I don't see that at all.

Watch it again. There were definitely some on DR. He was even was patting his chest signaling it was his fault on a couple. Of course many were not on him. Improvement can be made in all areas going forward. He is a great QB, but he is sophomore and will still make mistakes. He is still the key to our season so imo fans should have patience and not boo. Kind of ridiculous really.
