I follow you now and agree. At a minimum, he has earned some spit playing time.Yes. But, I hope that Wright isn't sent back to the bench.

The crazy thing is they have been terrible this year both ways. No bias, just a lot of sucking imo. I umpire and officiate (121 contests in last 12 months) so I do understand the challenge but dang, some of the no calls, and bad calls just baffle me.But that conspiracy against us though....
I added up the total penalties on the year and it is exactly equal. Same number called for and against Nebraska through 6 games.
Yes and no. It is one thing to not want to see so many flags or dislike stoppages, but when it is necessary it needs to be thrown. The Purdue game, while being pretty bad overall, did have good consistency in db expectations and what is allowable. Purdue couldn’t cover our receivers and were lost when the ball was in the air. Nebraska attacked that and DR did a good job of putting out jump balls on the sidelines to induce calls. It may not be pretty, but it is the same as a PG understanding what a ref is willing/won’t allow and using it to attack the defense to ring up fouls. Nebraska knew we had Purdue dead to rights on the outside and Purdue didn’t want to give up chunk plays. They held on for dear life and took the catch off the table. It is the refs job to then call those penalties consistently and both ways throughout the game once they set the limit. The refs are killing the NFL and sometimes college ball. Everything is so damn technical these days. I get it, a flag should be thrown but Jesus my lord in heaven, it just sucks the life out of a game when the refs are on tv or in person waiting for a call.
I like HS football a lot cuz the game just gets played and the players decide. Too many times the reviews, bias, un-important flags and stoppage just plague big time ball these days.
No argument there. It makes games hard to watch sometimes. The crazy thing is they have been terrible this year both ways. No bias, just a lot of sucking imo. I think they should get one penalty/non penalty challenge a game... it would be huge imo. As an official, it would actually remove some stress from my shoulders. It is very hard to shake off a bad call in my shoes so I imagine it is an even bigger deal at their level. The game would grind to a halt if coaches were allowed to challenge pass interference calls and non-calls. But wow, those missed calls are some of the biggest game changers every Saturday and Sunday.
Valid points but ,much of what you mention would be solved by limiting to one challenge per contest. Coaches aren't going to challenge it unless it is obvious imo. I know it isn't likely but I do think it would improve the game and the officiating.I think the parameters around penalty review would have to be super clear. As much as a blown PI call sucks, having a ticky tack call upheld or a random PI added would be worse. Not to mention the calls that truly could go either way. I am actually much less confident in a replay official looking at slow-mo replays getting the call right. Sure it could correct some blatant missed calls, but we're all going to have a different opinion on what's blatant versus something that could have been called.
I would like replay review on illegal man downfield because teams get away with way too much there and it's actually easy to define. But I think allowing a replay official to call or rescind PI or holding will either lead to way too many penalties, or nothing will be added/overturned and it's just another frustrating delay that doesn't help anyone.
