What did we learn

I am ecstatic with our win yesterday regardless of us not scoring in the 2nd half. I am worried about our non-special teams play and about our 13 penalties. You can’t win close games with this two issues. There will be many close games this season.

Only had the one explosive play, and it wasn't on offense. Travis got his because it's mandated in his contract to get force fed the ball, but his were empty calories. They did very little for the Buff's offense.

I think the penalties will prove to be an anomaly from the s#!ttiest crew we’ll have this year. The B1G officiating isn’t exactly good but they have never had a game as bad as this one. We have to go back to at least the A&M game to find that.

I completely agree, there were a few good calls but there were several that took away scoring opportunities away from Nebraska.

One thing important to remember, and this isn't directed at you but just a thought on my part, is that Nebraska realized that Colorado could not score on Nebraska's defense, or at least not enough to get back into the game in the second half. Colorado began to load the box on defense, knowing Nebraska was going to run the ball. And Nebraska did with so-so success, with a lot of plays negated by penalties - some that were deserved but many that were not.

Nebraska decided not to throw downfield against Colorado despite them loading the box simply because that was a way to win the football game. The only possible way Colorado could get back into the game was via a pick-6 or other turnovers. So Nebraska ran the ball, worked the clock, and punted. I think if they really wanted to, Nebraska's offense in the second half probably could've produced another touchdown or two. But they opted for complimentary football when they were up big.

DR's two best plays were a chuck it up and see what happens play to Lloyd and an almost pick to Rhamir for a TD.  He seemed a bit off, but I guess it was only his 2nd game.  Our kicker may cost us some close ones.  

 
One thing that is cracking me up a bit on highlight videos… is on the throw to Lloyd the non-Nebraska fans are saying it was not that good of a throw because he underthrew it. In their defense the highlights don’t always show the full play. But Raiola was being pursued by a defender and not only threw it 35 yards down field, but it was on the opposite 1/4 of the field. I would guess it was a throw that not many QBs can make, but also a great reception where the WR helped his QB.

I think you need to rewatch the game if this is your conclusion on DR. He made a lot of great plays that went 6-15 yards that would have been sacks for a lot of other QBs. 

He maybe should not have tried to throw that pass to Rahmir, but the Lloyd pass went to a space where nobody else was near him when it was caught, and like I said above (it was not intended as a reply to you), not many QBs can make that throw.

I really hope you are right because we had 2 touchdowns negated by penalties and a few 1st downs. Penalties have been an issue for us for a while now. We have been one of the most penalized teams in recent years.

 
Rhule said after the game he probably played it too conservative with the offense in the second half. 

We all know how important it was to secure this win. I've been a Husker fan since roughly 1965 and I don't recall many games that I thought we needed to win more than this one. A little conservative makes total sense in this situation, but I do believe Rhule, Satt, and Raiola will happily open things up as the season moves along.

Watching it live I was like "damn, get more power on that!" On replay it was like "damn, that's a hell of a throw on the run, off the back foot, and across his body!!!"

I heard somewhere that this was a former Pac 12 crew that is now a Big 12 crew.

As bad as BIG refs can be, Pac 12 refs were universally thought to be the worst in the old P5.

How about all the times he avoided pressure in the pocket with his eyes downfield like he was playing against junior high-ers, though? Or his scramble for a first down?
