whats the chances

I think we will be a better team even though might finish with a similar record to this years. Still say we are a few years away of being consistently "good".

IMO the National Title, while possible, is improbable. As others have said, the team definately finished the year off strong, but there are still some significant weaknesses the team probably has to address.

The O-line and the running game must both improve by a fair amount. Without better protection for Taylor and a consistent running game to take the pressure off him the team will probably struggle again on the road and will go through some dry spells offensively. I'm afraid we won't realize how valuable Ross was until the season starts.

The secondary also needs to improve, but there are fewer veteran qb's in the Big XII than in years past.

The team needs to develop consistency in all phases. Consistently lights out on and nasty on defense, consistently able to grind into the endzone once inside the 20, consistently able to convert 3rd downs, consistently focused and motivated on both sides of the ball.

With the majority of the playmakers and leadership returning on defense I look for them to be the anchor for our team again next season. Offensively, most of our turnovers came in spurts - 1st minutes of the second half against TT and OU, and 2nd Quarter vs. Michigan. If we can handle not losing focus in those situations we can win any of our games with the exception of USC and UT.

True we catch USC early, but playing on the road might even things out a little bit. Catching UT at home is a huge plus, but in both games NU will have to be playing their very best football. IMO the most important element to both those games and the rest of the season is can we get the swagger back? If the boys can somehow recapture that attitude and confidence then every game is winnable, I'm just not convinced they've gotten to that point yet.

A national championship should and likely will be the goal, Big XII champs and BCS bowl would be awesome, but realistically speaking, maybe the Holiday Bowl or another top tier non-BCS bowl would be an sound accomplishment for next season.

Next year will be out best chance for a couple of years for sure.

I do not see it happening but we can always hope.

Still to young, talent down compared to Oklahoma, Texas and USC. We will catch USC early and hopefully with a QB that is not ready for us.

Texas, who knows with there talent and QB's in the mill.

Oklahoma will be the toughest if we meet them in the CCG. They have the talent and experience moving forward another year.

I see a north division title and the CCG for sure.

Still think we are at least three years away from playing or being in the hunt for a NC game. But I do see us dancing with the top 10-12.

Not a put down on BC. I love the guy, but I think it just takes more time to right the ship than we are giving him. We do not have an offensive line that would get us to the NC game in my opinion. And I just do not see it jelling quick enough to do it no matter the coaching ability.

We had two pretty good games to end the year. We had a couple in the middle that gives me concern. Another year of experience and some very good players returning to the field after injuries will help.

A very exciting year to say the least. Is it September yet????

Hope is the key word here. I am sick of watching Nebraska games afraid of what might happen. That is bs. We have to expect to win every game. That doesnt mean that we dont take every game seriously, on the contrary, it means we take every game very seriously. When I get on that plane to go to southern california next year, I am going expecting a victory, and i expect our players to feel the same way. No more excuses, no more whining about road games, no more talking about how we will lose next year. No more talking about slight improvements, or next year. Its all about this year.... and if we lose, than we start thinking about next year, but until then, we are undefeated, and I will treat it as such.

NU will most likely win the overwhelming majority of their games, but when NU doesn't pull out the win, like you say they should every game, is the letdown a killer? I would just beat myself up if I had to go through that type of letdown. Also sounds as if you think of NU as one of the elite teams these days. Top 5 program.... yes. Top 5 talent...... no. Top 5 team....... no. At least not yet. One year at a time man, they are on their way back.

Yeah, it is a killer when they lose. The Texas Tech game was one of the worse days of my life last year, but you know what. The other 364 days of the year were that much better because I hadnt shut myself off from what it is to be a fan. The term fan is derived from fanatic, and is characterized largely by their ability to defy all reason and logic and believe in the team they follow, no matter how improbably the situation. I am a Green Bay Packer fan as well. My entire family is from Wisconsin, and we are all die hard fans. The Green Bay Packers couldnt get within 2000 miles of the stadium on superbowl sunday for 30 years, and for every one of those years, my Grandpa went to every single damn game, and thought that they were going to win every single one of them, even against the mighty 85 bears. He went throught thirty years of disappointment, until Bret Favre came in and carried the Packers and the state of Wisconsin on his shoulders to the superbowl and won. For those of you out there who dont know what it is like to believe in something so wholly for that long, never to see it happen, until one year it does, 30 years later, you couldnt possibly understand what it feels like. It is all or nothing. I don't expect anything from the players and the coaches other than to do their best, but I do expect to win every damn game, because when we actually do win that game, and get to that national championship, every hardship and disappointment that I suffered through are nothing compared to the pride that I feel. Its worth it to me.

dont forget about how many national championship games we were in and we just couldnt get over the hump... every loss is like getting stabbed in the stomach and left for dead... then the alcohol comes..

I respect that. Truly. I should know what that is like. I graduated from K-State, and from the time I enrolled for my first class to the day I graduated, we had won a total of.... 12 games. (In four years.) Going out to the stadium for gameday was really like watching a road game with all of the visiting team's fans there with us. You just sat there and took it from the opposing team's fans. The difference is that we NEVER expected to win, ever. For many, saturdays were just an excuse to get wasted and act like idiots, not rabid football fans who love their alma mater and their teams. That is why we hold Coach Snyder in the highest regard, forever. I would not be here talking football with you if that man did not devote his whole life to Kansas State. He gave us something we never, ever thought would be possible. Winning football. And now for true fans here in Kansas, the last couple of years have been stunning to the whole fanbase. It will truly bring out the fans, like yourself, who wear their pride on their sleeve and support the team like no other. I totally understand where you are coming from man.

I knew it Dont compare Kansas St football to Nebraska football

Its a whole other world. No mater what you say its not even close.

I have to kind of agree with KCTown. Every team in almost every sport has fans that bleed for their team (even KSU). All fans always hope their team will win the championship even if the chances are slim to none.

Chances of a NC 06 25%

Chances of a CCG 06 70%

Chances of a NDC 06 100%

Don't call me crazy I'm always optimistic.

Did I ruffle some feathers kc husker? Damm. Just talking about different ways fans support and appreciate their teams. Some different than others. Obviously NU fans are in a league all by themselves. No contest.

BALANCE BALANCE BALANCE....in my opinion its definately a possibility. If we have success running the ball and can protect the quarterback, LOOK OUT! You know what Zac can do with protection! We have some of the best talent in the country, and if you think that last years recievers were impressive, this year will only improve with the new incoming talent and Herian back in the lineup. Defense will improve as well....the injured LB's that won some of our first games for us against non conference teams will be back (Octavian, Bradley, Ruud) I think that even as young as we are it is not a stretch of the imagination to say we cannot run with the big boys.

As much as I would love it to happen next year, I just don't think it will happen.....not yet. It will happen and we all have to patient. When that day comes, all of the haters of Callahan can kiss my a$$.....along with the whole media that hates NU says they it won't happen again (i.e. ESPN).
:clap Would have to agree with you there!!!

Sorry I might have jumped the gun alittle bit

to compare KSU and NU.
