Where We Rehash and Bludgeon the Joe Burrow Situation Over and Over Again Repeatedly

How exactly did we run Gebbia off?  The kid didn't win the starting job and bailed.  If anything, our staff went out of their way to get him to stay.

Burrow was a completely unproven 3rd string QB coming from Ohio State.  It would have made zero sense to bring him into our program especially when our staff was able to land AM, our number 1 prospect.  This was always going to be a complete team rebuild so it made sense to start a freshman who could grow with the team.  I choose to believe we will see the results of that growth this year on the field.  No, we likely won't win 10 games with 51 freshman, but my money is on a winning season and a big step in the right direction.

By the way, who the hell is Sommers?

And why do you think Haarberg is a "project" kid?  The kid threw for over 4,000 yards, had 48TDs to 13 Int, and rushed for over 1000 yards in high school.  Just because the kid didn't do the camp circuit doesn't mean he isn't good.

So how has the development of

Martinez,

McCaffrey and

Smothers been so far?

What specific improvements have you see in their play that can be attributed to development?

Haarberg DEFINITELY a project, he competed against extremely weak competition.

I know which is which.

One had a descent rookie season at LSU

So did the other at NU

One got better and ended up winning the Heisman.

'Rookie season'...?

He was a redshirt junior compared to a true freshman in Martinez who played better with worse surrounding cast.

Great question. If all the other quarterbacks at Nebraska haven't developed, why do you think 57% completion percentage Joe Burrow would have?

The other got progressively worse both subsequent years and was in the top 10 every year for losing fumbles.

Now give Adrian 2 first round WRs, a first round RB and LSU'S O-line, and visa versa for Burrow.

In the 2 years we could have had Burrow

Nebraska lost 6 games by 4-7 points

Nebraska lost 4 games by 1-3 points

Yeah Im guessing a first round NFL QB who won the Heisman couldn't have won any of those 10 ONE SCORE GAMES. Better QB play and even just fewer turnovers by a legit first round NFL QB wouldn't have won us ANY Of those 10 ONE SCORE games.

Yeah right.  ;)

This is too easy

All the more reason to bring in a durable QB with some experience.

Completion percentage is a big deal? Martinez completed 70% last year- NU won THREE GAMES  :dunno

Joe went 16 TDs and 5 Interceptions that year and WON TEN GAMES LOL- wow :D  I would trade that season for ours any day of the week- 57% completions and all.

So... we are assuming he'd be the same.  But no matter where he went and who he was surrounded by, he would've been a first round QB and Heisman winner, right?

Posthumously using Burrow's overall success at LSU as an indicator of what he would've done at Nebraska prior to experiencing any of that success is a fairly disingenuous argument.

Burrow was a talented but relatively unknown commodity heading into his junior season. It's certainly possible (and perhaps even likely) that he ends up performing better than Adrian, but that opinion holds virtually no weight over any other because a lot of it is based on pure speculation.

This topic is drawing far too much enmity given it's based almost entirely in an alternate reality.

Are we measuring the development in your mind or with real stats?  Btw, you skipped the Gebbia question.
As soon as you explain all the great development- that can be statistically proven- any of our QBs have had in the last 3 years.

Fire away- Ill wait.

Mr Cigar/renaissance man/weirdo/harry potter/smartest guy in the room is a joke.

There's no way to place any amount of significant validity towards one opinion over the other.

To think 10 one score games in those 2 seasons, that Burrow couldnt have won us at least 4 of those games- 4 by FIELD GOAL. IS DISINGENUOUS>

ONE SCORE games- a legit NFL first rounder couldn't have improved our scoring by 3 points??, Wow. I guess the NFL is missing out, they could get Martinez for a whole lot less than Burrow- with no apparent improvement.

You're arguing a point I didn't make.

Burrow was not a "legit NFL first rounder" heading into his junior season at LSU. He was a talented but relatively unknown commodity.
