Who's our next coach?

Agree for sure. Gotta get tougher. Tired of getting "beaten up". Ready to be the most physical team on the field again.

Remember the Titans is one of my fave movies for sure.
My all time favorite movie - not even close. So many great lessons in the movie. Makes me wish I could still play football as I did in high school. When a coach says 'blitz all night' that is the green light to cause chaos - perfect for my old position as an OLB.

Wish I could remember which player or talking head said that watching NU practices he saw no coaches getting into players asses.... I'd like to see a lot more fire on the sidelines and dudes getting lit up for making mistakes. I miss Bo's fire/passion/anger tbh.

This probably isn't the thing you were thinking of. But after Riley got fired, Charlie McBride went onto some random podcast and talked about visiting practice(s).

And he talked about the shocking lack of physicality and actual tackling taking place, from what he saw.

You guys that want a hard a$$ coach who gets in players faces would be good to remember the transfer portal is an easy escape for players these days. I love it for some reasons but hate that coaches are basically having to recruit their own players to stay on a daily basis. Sure, Cig appears to be coaching that way right now but I'm curious to see what happens when everything isn't sunshine and roses.

I remember people on here blaming Barthel for Ajay Allen transferring because there was a video of Bethel giving the business to Allen after a poor practice rep.
Forgot about that. Had to google, played at Miami for 2 years and then Tulsa. Did ok. I am a fan of a coach getting onto a player.

Not surprised McBride said that at all. I'll try to find it, but seem to recall it from this season.

Saban said as much. Recruiting a kid in HS, then recruiting the portal and then recruiting your own players each season to try and keep them. A full time gig recruiting probably 6 years worth of guys at a time...More than a full time job.

so hollywood is teaching how to be a coach? does that mean the dukes of hazard was teaching us how to drive?
I mean Any Given Sunday, the Longest Yard (Original and remake) The Program, Water Boy, North Dallas Forty, Friday Night Lights...A lot of coaches learned from those movies. Don't get me started on driving movies, Bullet, Talledega Nights, Days of Thunder, F1 etc..:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Watching the NC game and seeing Indiana lift the trophy after their short turnaround with non-5 star players…I have to wonder why we haven’t been able to do something similar, because we kind of did this regularly back in the 70s-90s.

I now wonder how much our “boosters of substance” and incompetent stewardship (malfeasance?) by UNL leadership, the regents, and the Governor play into our school’s inability to draw competent leadership to our football program.

Do coaches just “nope” out of discussions with us not because of the Riley, Pelini, and Frost firings (and soon to be Rhule—let’s just be honest here, folks, its coming if he doesn’t make a bowl next year…) or are they seeing extreme dysfunction and incompetence behind the scenes? Do our boosters run talent off?

Watching Indiana, can’t help but feel if we had competent leadership, we’d have our own Cignetti and rags-to-riches story.

Also, re: Rhule’s replacement, I’d like to see us go after an up-and-coming assistant from a program that’s achieved something…like a Georgia, Ohio State, or Michigan.

The problem at this point would be finding a coach that wants to stay at Nebraska and not just use us as a stepping stone. At this point any coach who could come here and lead us to prominence would be a very hot commodity in the college ranks.

There are 68 Power conference teams all trying to do the exact same thing. With only 1 champion, we are still well ahead of the curve. There are a gob of teams that have never won a championship. Then there are teams like Tenn, Penn State, Washington, Notre Dame, Missouri, Nebraska, etc.. who haven't won a championship in over 25 years. Everyone is pouring massive resources into their football programs but they can't do it either.

I personally believe many in our fan base took the 90s for granted and now are now acting like entitled children on a yearly basis. I do think we should expect better than what we have had but I guarantee getting back to 9-10 win seasons won't satisfy those in our fan base that believe we deserve to be 1995 Nebraska again.
