I'm in the camp of the original poster. Has Turner done a good job at Buffalo? Yeah, I guess. They went from awful to not-quite mediocre. Is that the best we can do?
Let's find a proven head coach, even if we have to dip to the mid-major or service academy levels.I'm in the camp of the original poster. Has Turner done a good job at Buffalo? Yeah, I guess. They went from awful to not-quite mediocre. Is that the best we can do?
Everyone is a big risk if you ask me. A&M went after the "safe" hire the last time when they landed a big name like Franchione. As far as I know, he'll be joining some others in the unemployment line. The main thing is Gill might turn Buffalo around, but he hasn't yet. There are other coaches who have already turned programs around -- we have talked about them a number of times. It's too bad that this is only Gill's second season -- we just don't have a good enough read on him yet. I think all coach hires have risks, but Gill is clearly a higher risk at this time. I think you have to consider Pelini a bigger risk, too -- he's been a HC for just one game. But no matter how you look at it, each candidate will have some degree of risk.
How many did Bob Stoops have before he won a National Championship at OU?Pelini has how many years of head coaching experience?I don't want Turner Gill for our coach, he is just simply not experienced enough to take over at Nebraska. I think that Bo Pelini is the best person for the job.
:yeah
GBR!!!
Uh, you might want to rethink that line. During the '70s, and even into the '80s, Dr. Tom came under a lot of fire for not being able to win "the big one" - either a major bowl or a national championship. A pretty significant portion of the fan base wanted him gone. And it got bad enough that Dr. Tom considered leaving the Huskers.***SNIP***
Osborne didn't win a national championship for a long time after he was made head coach and the people didn't mind.
