Fans are never the coach but that does not mean fans cannot critique the coaching...very naive to suggest that. I am a leader of leaders at a large organization and I frankly have higher expectations for head coaches than any other part of a football program. The head coach is the one person that hires all the assistant coaches and signs off on every player added to the team. The buck stops with the head coach, and when a program is performing well and exceeding expectations, I will give that coach praise and kudos. When a program is struggling as Nebraska has under Rhule, I will continue to critique that coach.
If Rhule can show a huge step forward and get to 9 wins next season then I think he will have changed the trajectory of the program. If we are still meddling just above or below .500 then he will be in the hot seat. And this is not unique to Nebraska.
Wisconsin fans are doing the same assessment with Fickell who is 13-13 in his time at Wisconsin while Rhule is 11-13 at Nebraska. The local media are even assessing what would be involved in firing Fickell.
