Your 2025 Nebraska Cornhuskers

We can't all be sunshine pumpers like you. I am sure you were one of the ones that wanted to keep Frost as well despite his poor record.  And I was very complimentary of Rhule making the in season change at OC but I would also say he needed to do the same for special teams. The 11-13 record speaks for itself and it appears you are content with this record and believe Rhule deserves no criticism.
No, just realistic. Am I not happy with this year, but I'm not constantly whining about it.  We made a positive adj. By eliminating Satterfield from OC & it hurt that White is leaving.  It's over & I look positive into the future.

To have a positive future it's essential to acknowledge and understand did not work well.  Simply hoping for things to get better without identifying the cause of what did not work well is futile.  The reason Holgerson appeared to have immediate success is that he did not just accept the status quo and looked at all aspects of the offense and all the players from an objective lens.  He was not afraid to call out Fidone and bench him for making a mistake.  Tough leadership is what is needed to truly change the trajectory of this program. Pumping sunshine and accepting the current trajectory will only ensure more of the same.

I'm not the coach & your not the coach!

I will agree that there are players that need to go.  Some of our SRs are just used to losing & don't care.  I'm not a fan of fidoni, benhardt or our Sr wideouts.  I'm not pumping sunshine, but we were dumpster fire & changing that culture in 2 yrs. Is difficult.  Satterfield, Gillespie & Foley did not help as they do not hold anyone accountable.  Better that I complained to!

Fans are never the coach but that does not mean fans cannot critique the coaching...very naive to suggest that.  I am a leader of leaders at a large organization and I frankly have higher expectations for head coaches than any other part of a football program.  The head coach is the one person that hires all the assistant coaches and signs off on every player added to the team. The buck stops with the head coach, and when a program is performing well and exceeding expectations, I will give that coach praise and kudos.  When a program is struggling as Nebraska has under Rhule, I will continue to critique that coach.

If Rhule can show a huge step forward and get to 9 wins next season then I think he will have changed the trajectory of the program. If we are still meddling just above or below .500 then he will be in the hot seat.  And this is not unique to Nebraska.  Wisconsin fans are doing the same assessment with Fickell who is 13-13 in his time at Wisconsin while Rhule is 11-13 at Nebraska.  The local media are even assessing what would be involved in firing Fickell.

Trajectory matters - there's a big difference between bowling in year one and missing it in year two versus the opposite. Totally agree Rhule would rightfully be on the hot seat if we're still a ~.500 team next year. But if Fickell missed the bowl his first year and made it in his second, they would not be talking about firing him.

My expectations for Rhule in year 3 is 9 wins, how about for you?  As for making a bowl game, I honestly think too much is made of that. The only reason we made a bowl game this year and not last is that we played the worst Wisconsin team in over a decade. Had the 2 Wisconsin teams been reversed, we likely make a bowl last year but not this year.  Nebraska fans are just heavily focused on a bowl game as it's been so long.  The real focus needs to be getting toward more wins and sustaining that.  I am totally fine with a coach having a down year if they have otherwise consistently gotten 9-plus wins and make the playoff or CCG every few years.

Trajectory does matter, but if we are honest here Rhule and Fickell's aren't all that different.  Bowls in different years, but Nebraska still finished 1-5 after a 5-1 start.  We still went 3-6 in conference, just like last year.  The difference basically is we beat Colorado one year, and lost to them the other.

You can definitely argue Fickell's is worse, but I don't think that matters a whole lot.  They are both in big trouble without a good season next year.

I have zero problem with Rhule as long as he keeps making changes to better the program.  We have already seen him make a major move on the offensive side when it wasn't working.  Fantastic.  I'm excited to see who he gets as the new DC and DL coach.

I have never understood the entire....the HC damn well get his staff hired perfectly on the first try or he's going to be fired mantra.  I can see it if then, he's not willing to make changes when necessary.  But, I have no problem with a coach who is willing to realize changes need made and making them.

I agree with your sentiment to an extent BRB.  I am encouraged that Rhule made the OC change mid-season where Frost was more loyal to his guys. With that said, Rhule was given a large budget to make hires and he chose Satterfield of all OCs available.  Making a poor coordinator decision for year 1 potentially sets the program back 2 or more years so it is extremely important to get the coordinators right the first time around.

Was he his first choice?  no.  Not even sure he was his second choice.  He had a short time to put together a staff.  Now he has more time.  I'm excited to see what happens.

I'm sorry @BigRedBuster, you are not allowed to have these level headed opinions at this point.  You need to be outraged and overly pessimistic about the state of the program.  And you also get bonus points for saying that Rhule has zero chance of making through next year.

Did Rhule say that Satterfield was the 3rd choice?  I had heard speculation he may have been the 2nd choice. With that said, I am excited at the opportunity to rebuild the staff and make improvements.
