  1. After seeing the video on the big screen at the Sports Center on Saturday night, I like it. It comes across better than on my computer screen.
  2. After watching the NU VB team on NET Thursday and Friday, and then actually being at the Sports Center on Saturday to see their win over Iowa State, I truly believe this young team has GREAT potential. It appears that the new faces are meshing well with one another and will continue to improve over the next few weeks. Now, if I may just express some disappointment for a moment.....I fully understand you play your best players but I can't help but wonder how Morgan Broekhuis is handling her senior year. I feel sorry for this hard working gal who has dedicated her last three years to NU volleyball and now in her senior year is standing on the sidelines. She has played very well for the NU VB team but it now seems that her days are done. It appears Cook doesnt even want to give her a chance. Morgan is a great player and I think its a shame she wont be on the court much this season. She is a true Husker She is a player who came to Nebraska in her freshman year to play for the Big Red. She isnt some girl who decided in her senior year to come to the Husker state to play for a winning team.
  3. I totally agree that the girls need to smile. The tough look doen't work for me. "Throwing the bones" is a football thing...not volleyball. Although last year our UNL girls gymanstics team included the cross arm in their floor routine...but they smiled as they did it. I think they need to redo the Tunnel Walk. This doesn't represent Nebraska VB very well.
  4. Immediately noticed the bad sound system. They need to work on that in the future. Couldn't understand alot of the Huskervision features or the PA announcer. I thought the team looked good considering all the new faces. It was alot of fun watching the alumni play. I was disappointed in the traditional "after game autographs". Instead of fans meeting the players on the floor they moved to the concourse level and had to deal with a mob of fans trying to get close to the tables. And this all had to be done in 45 minutes. I didnt find that very fan friendly.
  5. Anyone else purchase tickets this morning? At 8am I got on the website and the best tickets I could get were in C Level. So I called the ticket office and the best tickets they offered me was B level on the end. Whats up with this? Why were the A seats not available for us to purchase this morning? This may be the only chance some of us get to see a Nebraska VB game and it was disappointing to find out that at 8am all A seats were taken.
  6. Each year I go to the Red/White scrimmage. Always a fun time. This year will be extra special. Any thoughts or guesses on how ticket sales will be like on the first day? The fact that we get a look at the new arena, and now that Coach Cook has added players like Jordan Larson to play, I would think that diehard Nebaska VB fans will try to snatch up tickets quickly. Or am I wrong?
  7. A great night last night for the Womens Gymnastics team as they defeat Iowa and we say goodbye to three seniors. If you have not heard Janelle Giblin scored a perfect 10.0 on the bars last night making Husker history....it was Nebraska's first perfect ten since 2011. Congratulation ladies on a great night!!!!!
  8. It's Pack The House on Sunday for the women's gymanstics meet! One dollar admission and one dollar Pepsi products! But most of all, some of the best gymnastics you will see in the Big Ten. Hope everyone can come on out and support the team! I feel a 10.0 score coming one of these days!
  9. The second home meet of the year is tonight at the Devaney Center. If you didn't see the girls the first home meet, get out tonight and see some excellent gymnastics. These gals are awesome to watch. They should very well be in the running for a championship. It all starts at 6pm....lets get out and support the UNL ladies!!!!!
  10. I remember as a kid in junior high seeing some snatch before our volleyball players started wearing the butt-huggers. They all wore standard bikini style underwear under moderately short (at the time) shorts. They'd end up on the floor, feet in the air and you'd catch more than a 7th grader could hope for. The butt-huggers prevent that. Now, I grew up in a really small, conservative Nebraska town - so I was a freshman (late 90's) before our HS girls finally went to the tights. A lot of girls had issues with it then. They didn't step out and say much because they didn't want their friends giving them sh#t. But plenty were uncomfortable the first few years. For one thing (and I'm saying this with a straight face not to start a bunch of jokes), many didn't own thong underwear. A couple of my good friends who were girls talked about having to go shopping with their moms (remember we were hours away from the nearest mall) to buy new underwear to avoid the lines and having to spend half a match picking their bikini style underwear out of their ass. I think it was just as awkward wearing the tights, as it was shopping with your mom to buy a few thongs. Obviously, not much of that applies to girls today. They're in thongs by 7th grade - if they wear underwear at all. My wife coaches junior high VB, and her 7th graders are in tights and rarely does she have a girl or a parent take issue with it. I have watched volleyball for years and I have always wondered what the girls wear under the tight shorts. Thongs? Do they actually play with that string between their cheeks? I just assumed they may not wear anything.
  11. thank you sir. I knew there would be someone else that remembered it as well. Did she not seem pretty distraught? And, I would be shocked if she was under 70 years old. I found the recording of the question. Caller: I was just wondering about the uniforms. Why do they have to be so short and why dont they wear bicycle shorts? Is there some reason? Cook: Well, those are kinda like bicycle shorts that we wear. There are some teams that wear less than we do. The thing is Bard, when they go to the floor, you have to have tight fitting clothing because if you have loose fitting clothing it will grab your skin when you go to the floor and it will create major bruises and it will tear their skin. So that is one of the reasons why they wear tight fitting clothing so when they go to the floor they dont damage their skin. Caller: I don't believe that. Cook: Well, ask anyone who has played at this level and..... Caller: Try it the other way. John Baylor: Okay thats all we wil do with that. And with that they moved on to another topic.
  12. I remember that lady calling in to Sports Nighlty about the clothing. In fact I believe I have a recording of it somewhere in my archives. Coach Cook tried toexplain to the lady that when a player goes to the floor, baggy clothing can actually tear the skin of the player. Because VB players do alot of digging and sliding on the floor the tight clothing prevents any injuries such as "tearing of the skin" to the player. I thought Coach Cook handled the caller very well even though she insisted that the VB clothes were not appropriate.
  13. Hate to see her go. But wish her well. What the heck is happenign with Taylor Simpson? After reading that Coach Cook said she has moved around alot, I did some internet searching and she has been jumping from one school to another.
  14. You don't understand....this was beyond cheering for your team. It was just obnoxious. Very difficult for some people to watch and enjoy the game. Everytime the ball came to the Husker side he would yell on every hit "GO"..."BIG"..."RED". Never quit once. Did it all three sets. I love fans with spirit. I love cheering at sporting events. But this was beyond normal. Its obvious why he came to the game by himself. I doubt he has any friends who will sit with him. I saw the one woman plead to him at the start of the third set to tone it down. He shook his head like he understood...but one play later his booming voice was full strength. I felt sorry for the fans around him. Here is an example of what I saw...."Now serving Hannah Werth!" Crowd.."Werth!" Fan: "Werth!" "Go Big Red!" Go Hannah" "Go Huskers" (Ball in play) "Go Huskers" "Gooooo Biiiig Redddd!" It was very disturbing.
  15. An observation I made last night during the VB game....... It's great to cheer on the Huskers, but I would prefer the Husker fan who yelled constantly during last nights VB match would stay home this evening. There is a point where you need to draw the line with your Husker spirit. This young man was very disrepectful to the fans around him. He is sitting alone...not with friends...and does nothing but constantly is yelling "Go Huskers" or "Go Big Red". He was asked several times by fans around him to tone it down, but he apparently didn't understand. People were plugging their ears with their fingers and others were covering their ears up with their hands. This young man has no manners and should not be granted a ticket to any Husker events. He was located right behind the score table several rows up. If you know who this young student is, please tell him to show respect to those around him this evening.
