Education

Well hallelujah.  :cowbell:

But we impede ourselves when we believe we’re advancing our calls for racial equity and social justice by imposing our rigid ideological orthodoxy on everyone else. Censoring opponents sends a message: We’re threatened, our reasoning isn’t strong enough to face off in a debate and we’re sealing ourselves off from good-faith engagement.

Why not allow opponents their soapbox and engage with them head-on? We have good arguments. We have strong cases. Let’s use them.

Some big schools in Oklahoma are telling Okla Sec of Education to go pound sand in regards to his Bible in every classroom mandate.

I think Walters is trying to audition for The Felon's Sec of Education job.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/least-8-large-oklahoma-school-044024159.html

Less than a month before Oklahoma school districts begin classes, the state schools superintendent issued guidance for how public schools might incorporate his directive that the Bible be taught in every classroom.

In late June, Republican State Superintendent Ryan Walters ordered school districts statewide to integrate the Bible “as an instructional support into the curriculum" for grades five through 12. While the controversial mandate has prompted outrage from civil rights groups and some Democratic lawmakers, Walters has argued that the Bible is "foundational for education" and a "cornerstone of Western civilization."

The guidelines from Walters detail how teachers should add the Bible to their lesson plans and how it should be taught for different grades.

“Immediate and complete implementation of these guidelines for the 2024-2025 school year is required,” Walters said in a memo sent to district superintendents. “This memorandum and the included standards must be provided to every teacher, as well as providing a physical copy of the Bible, the United States Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Ten Commandments as resources in every classroom in the school district. These documents are mandatory for the holistic education of students in Oklahoma.”

But the list of large districts that have said they won’t be altering their curriculum despite the directive has grown to at least eight.

The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office has said state law already allows for the Bible to be taught in classrooms, but doing so is a district-by-district decision. Based on comments to the media and letters sent to patrons, most of the districts that don’t plan to implement the directive have leaned on that principle of local control in making their respective decisions concerning curriculum.

The Center for Education Law also has issued a memorandum to Oklahoma school districts calling Walters’ mandate invalid under state law. Earlier this year, the legal firm successfully represented Edmond Public Schools in the district’s lawsuit against Walters and the Oklahoma State Board of Education. Responding to that lawsuit, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled the content of school libraries was a decision to be made by a local school board, not the state board.

This is good.  Hopefully those schools stick to this and reject Sec of Education stance
They will. He has no constitutional standing for creating such a mandate.  He's just trying to strongarm everyone using the threat of decertification.   He's become a clown show.  I say that as a conservative.  But a true conservative / constitutionist would not be taking these steps.

With colleges and universities beginning a new academic year, we can expect more contentious debate over programs that promote diversity, equity and inclusion. Progressives are doubling down on programs that teach students that they are either oppressed peoples or oppressors, while red states are closing campus D.E.I. programs altogether.

For all of the complaints, some of these programs most likely serve the important goal of ensuring that all students are valued and engaged participants in their academic communities. But we fear that many other programs are too ideological, exacerbate the very problems they intend to solve and are incompatible with higher education’s longstanding mission of cultivating critical thinking.

It’s just horrible that we would promote respecting others and inclusion of people not like us.

On the off chance a few might do something we might not like….we must get rid of all programs that promote this.

This was a pretty good read.   I found that I agreed with most of Nate’s points on the subject, though everyone has their own experiences.

I am sure state Education systems are littered with people like this. I debated on whether to put this under Democratic Utopia.

In a video first reported on by the National Review and posted to YouTube on June 19, 2022, by The Solidarity Network, Lozenski spoke about his research with a panel. He even touched on Critical Race Theory, a school of thought that generally focuses on how power structures and institutions affect racial minorities. The video was removed from YouTube late Wednesday evening.

"We don’t use critical race theory in school," Lozenski said. "The first tenet of critical race theory is that the United States, as constructed, is irreversibly racist. So, if the nation state, as constructed, is irreversibly racist, then it must be done with. It must be overthrown.

"It’s an anti-state theory that says the United States needs to be deconstructed, period," Lozenski said.

Lozenski was appointed to the state’s department of education by Walz to help write the framework of ethnic studies standards.

why do you think our state education systems are littered with people who think this?

Maybe these teachers and education officials should be more patriotic and take over the Capitol.  Then maybe FoxNews and other folks would be more sympathetic towards their motives.

Did you ever wonder why your Fox article didn't link to the video or the National Review article?

Oh! How convenient...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nationalreview.com/corner/lozenski-video-removed-walz-must-start-again/amp/

The video in which Lozenski called for the overthrow of America was removed from YouTube late last night. In its place, you will now find a link that says, “Video unavailable. This video has been removed by the uploader.”

One of these days you'll do the leg work yourself... In the meantime maybe we can figure out why confronting historical racism and lack of diversity scares you so much.

Ehhh, at least this dude that was appointed taught K-12...

Of course he quit, so...but at least it is better than most!

Remember, if you are NOT in education you should just shut up about education topics.
