Bruh, I gave yall the benefit of doubt, but you were way off. Just because Neb has a position with a GM title - you apparently didn't understand what a General Manager means in football.
Husker GM Padden was a scout team manager guy that managed and prepped the assistant coaches with scout team players and their development. He was also expected to engage with the newbie/younger guys.
That is not what I or many people think of when you hear "Football General Manager".
But, Padden was given a General Manager tag title as the Huskers GM.
So let's compare what NU'sGeneral Manager was doing, with Andrew Luck's responsibilities as a Football General Manager with Stanford. Which is what I was original excited about. Now Compare....
GM Andrew Luck' role and responsibility:
Adopt a professional sports model. Husker's GM / Padden? Nope.
Navigate the complexities of NIL deals plus player development. Husker's GM / Padden? Nope
Manage the coaching staff (that includes HC).
Husker's GM / Padden? Nope.
Roster management - Manage player personnel and roster. Husker's GM / Padden? Nope.
Recruiting - Oversee player evaluation and recruiting strategies. Husker's GM / Padden? Nope.
Alumni relations - Build relationships with boosters and Alumni. Husker's GM / Padden? Nope.
Fundraising - Help increase attendance and secure sponsorships. Husker's GM / Padden? Nope.
Stadium experience - Oversee the in-stadium experience. Husker's GM / Padden? Nope.
Husker GM Padden on his roles -
"Whenever there's sort of something new, Rhule kind of throws me at it and says, 'Alright, figure this out,'".... “It's really just a fun way to stay on top of the young guys,” Padden said. “I grade every one of their days so that I get a sense of how they're developing, how they're coming along.
And it also allows me to engage the younger players on the team with regard to their development. Sometimes guys end up on scout team and feel like they're lost. Well, I lived on scout team for three seasons of college football, and so I know what it's like.” - GM Padden
No offense, but I just don't think you understand what hiring a GM means in today's college football environment and the responsibilities that comes with the title. And that is what I alluded to from the beginning.
Maybe this new Husker GM will have more of a real GM responsibility? If not, then just forget everything and let's create a lesser titile.
By the way, Padden is still on staff and was move to a different position/role. He was also a guy from Rhule's past during the Temple days.
