Harper Murray Post

Again, this will all blow over, as it should. It has to be difficult being a young athlete in the spotlight. People calling for removal are just as silly.

Will it blow over? Volleyball aside it looks like a lot of powerful and motivated folks want to keep these fires burning and are very much calling for removal and censorship.

The closest we've gotten (and still far from anything truly concrete) in terms of evidence is a screenshot allegation that she liked the following comments:

"Why have you never once called out the gun violence against innocent children at schools but are posting about him?"

"can i ask why it took this death to get everyone on the same page? there was a school shooting in colorado today too. that makes 9 already this year. I'm just confused..."

"This was a tragic event, and political violence is abhorrent. But, we're flyin ghalf-staff for a man who was never officially part of the government..."

"He said gun deaths are worth having, to keep the second amendment, therefore im prayin gfor him and his family, this should happen to no one and we must condemn..."

These are all valid points, and the reason it's "no coincidence" they were made in the wake of Kirk's assassination is because EVERYONE'S comments were made in the wake of Kirk's assassination. They got pretty chilling on both sides. But the above comments are not "leftist" and are a fair response to some pretty horrific trolling by Kirk supporters.

Getting into political grey area here but my opinion is it It will but not before some more accountability. ABC can spin JK being pulled off the air any way they want but it is a smart business decision, not censorship. Some are saying it is due to political pressure but a good % of their viewers being outraged can't be ignored. No major network can afford to lose the viewers in the middle.

It will, but it has only been a week so there may be a cloud overhanging things for awhile longer. We are doing a lot of inferring about how her actions impact her teammates when they may not be paying attention to them. Therefore, the removal/censorship crowd should take a step back. She is entitled to her opinions and free to act/do/say whatever she wants. She should not face team punishment or suspension because of them.

However, she must also understand that actions have consequences in the court of public opinion. Hopefully she learns from it.

Perfectly valid POV. But Jimmy Kimmell is just the most visible target among many right now. There are definitely parallels with the businesses who made a business decision to cancel employees and vendors making racist/sexist/homophobic/xenophobic comments in the #MeToo and BLM era. A notable difference is that this wave is lead by the President of the United States, enlisting the authority of the FCC and other federal regulators and promising often un-Constitutional government action to threaten the profits of private corporations who don't align with the President's wishes. It's pretty creepy, really, and true conservatives shoud be appalled by the federal government over-reach.

Also, Husker Women's Volleyball!

i still haven't seen anything where she is celebrating his death. all i have seen is her agreeing with not having to feel too bad about his death. meanwhile kilmeade on fox news said that homeless people should be killed. i have not heard any of his viewers calling for him to be knocked off the fox team. maybe they just all agree with him? i don't know.

I don’t think that was the issue, atleast from the sane, emotionless crowd. Rebekah is a devout Christian and CK’s death clearly impacted her. For her teammate to go and like many of the comments that went against her position was quirky. Rebekah has always expressed her faith, while I’ve never known Harper to express any social opinions (I don’t pay that much attention). Just a weird leg to stand on from a teammate standpoint.

I am not religious and I didn’t pay any attention to CK when he was alive. It’s very unique to see people’s viewpoints on this matter resemble their beliefs/opinions from politics section of this message board.

At the end of the day, the only thing is that the athletes should all know they have a "brand." That also includes who you work/play for. They just need to be educated on how their social media can affect your brand. They can post what they want, but there can always be an effect.

It didn't come from nothing. We all know that. However, it wasn't so bad that it deserves anywhere near the attention it is getting imo.
That's my point. It's a perceived reality that this is some HUGE horrible thing that happened that she needs to be punished for.

So it is ok for Rebekah to outspoken despite having teammates who may not agree with her, but not for other teammates to voice their own contrary opinion? Is Rebekah not being supportive and considerate of her teammates?
